    Short Vowel -Long Vowel: Academic Accelerator


    Grade Level E

    Approximately 2 minutes
    Time
    Purpose/SEL Students will use short- and long-vowel sounds to decode and spell single
    syllable words while simultaneously increasing muscular strength and
    muscular endurance through a variety of exercises.

    Materials ★ Good space and the "Short Vowel - Long Vowel" video

    Instructions 1) Several words will appear on the video resource.


    2) The students will perform a low exercise (squat, plank, etc) when
    reading a word with a short vowel sound.
    3) They will continue performing this exercise until they read a word with
    a long vowel sound, in which case the student will stand tall and rest.

    Modifications ★ Have students do low and high arm exercises instead of standing
    exercises
