Planning Process
Addressed Concerns
- Honoring and celebrating Christmas
- Gathering before everyone leaves for Christmas Break
- Improving mental well-being through socialization with close friends

S.M.A.R.T Goal
Provide an uplifting semi-formal Holiday dinner for a group of 4-6
people no later than December 10
Planning Process
Form a Plan
WHO: Me & Husband, The Harper’s, The Vance’s
WHAT: Guests will show up to the holiday dinner dressed in nice casual wear and partake in the meal
and socializing
WHERE: My apartment kitchen and living room
WHEN: Friday, December 9th at 6pm
HOW: Decide on a meal and plan estimated purchasing by November 25. Send out custom invites via
text and physical drop off by Friday, Dec 2nd. Clean house at least one day in advance with any
additional tidying up the day off. Purchase any desired themed tableware from Dollar Tree and Thrift
Store to save $, not necessary but adds a nice touch as learned in The Hour That Matters Most. Take
Friday afternoon (since no work or classes after 2pm) to set up and begin cooking – note that specific
times to begin cooking are TBD once I figure out the meal and its cooking process. For extra *pizzazz*,
display full screen fireplace video on TV with soft Christmas music playing in the background.

Financial Challenges
At first I thought some coupon apps I have would save my money because
there is typically a thanksgiving sale where you can get cashback on holiday
items. However, this year it seems they changed it to you have to buy a
certain amount to unlock these coupons. That puts a little damper on my
plans as I don’t want to spend more money to unlock a coupon. However, I
picked some things I knew I would have around the house or would be easy
for me to make and luckily most of it is relatively cheap.

Reflection

I would definitely do this again. I had so much fun getting decorations together! It was also my first time
hosting a holiday meal. Next time, I want to try and get a honey ham as I feel that’s better for taste and
the holidays but all Broulim’s had was hickory. I love how my name cards came out, as I created them
myself from what I purchased from Dollar Tree. I also think the music helped set a lovely holiday tone
and my friends thought it was just lovely! They want me to do it again for future holidays! They felt the
champagne flutes were a nice, fun touch that made it seem like a special treat. They also appreciated
that I used skills from class to fold our napkins all fancy.
Another piece that was difficult was my dog ate my first pie, so I had to remake it. Luckily I wanted to be
prepared and had made it a day ahead of time so this gave me enough time to get new ingredients and
prepare another one.
