1. INTRODUCTION
Consultation, Research & Development Department (CRDD), NIOSH was invited by SYARIKAT ONG YOKE LIN SDN. BHD. to propose
Confined Space Risk Assessment in its working areas.
2. BACKGROUND OF NIOSH
National Insitute of Occupational Safety and Health, Malaysia (NIOSH) was established in 1992 by the government
(Ministry of Human Resources) to spearhead safety and healthy culture at the workplace in Malaysia. Located in
Bandar Baru Bangi as registered office and headquarters for operations with 4 other regional offices, namely Northern
Region Office, Southern Region Office, Eastcoast Region Office and East Malaysia Region Office.
NIOSH core activities are as follows:
i. Develop and conduct training programmes
ii. Assist industries, commercials, and others in solving problems related to OSH through consultancy services
iii. Provide latest information in the field of OSH
iv. Conduct applied research and development activities
v. Examination and assessment for competency courses (e.g. Safety and Health Officer, Industrial Hygiene T echnician, Chemical Health
Risk Asssessor, Occupational Health Doctor, Occupational Health Nurse, Authorised Gas T ester for Confined Space, Forklift Drivers,
Occupational First Aiders and etc.)

3. GOALS
The objectives of this monitoring are:

Risk Assessment Consultation in its working areas. The objectives of this project are:
To evaluate the current occupational safety and health (OSH) legal compliance of the work activities for
confined space;
To assess the risk of work activities for confined space; and
To recommend preventive measure to improve safety and health of workers.

Space Checklist for Workplace 2021 in Appendix A
6. GOALS
DELIVERABLES
Upon completion of the project, NIOSH will:
Deliver an official report of CSRA within one month after the last day of agreed draft report.
7. PROPOSED PERSONNEL
NIOSH shall include the provision of all the necessary approved, suitably qualified and competent personnel to carry
out and complete the project.
