DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 7 GRADE-7

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

1. Identify the natural resources found in the Philippines;

2. Share their insights about the ways on how to reduce the effects of human activities

to the natural resources.

3. Create their idea in preserving our natural resources .

II. CONTENT

a. Subject Matter

Subject: Science 7

Topic: Philippines Natural Resources

b. Integration: Earth Science, Biology

c. Values: Discipline, Respect

d. Strategies: Inquiry-based Learning

e. Materials: Video presentation, PPT presentation, Laptop

f. References: Science 7 Manual, Quarter 3 and Internet sources

III. LEARNING TASK /PROCEDURE

TEACHER'S ACTIVITY STUDENT'S ACTIVITY

a. Daily Routine

" Good Morning Class" " Good Morning Maam"

How was your morning class? Did you eat your Yes maam
breakfast for today?

Since you are all fine , let's check your energy

first!

Grade- 7 Mahoghany Energy Level "Yes maam a 100%"

That's great!

So let us start checking your attendance!

Say present if your name is called.

Calling the names of the students in

alphabetical order.
Saying present when their name is called.

b. Review of the Previous Topic

Last meeting we already discussed the

greenhouse effect and also the cause of Global
Warming, Right?
Yes maam

What is greenhouse again class?

" It is a house that made up of glass."

That's Right!

How about Greenhouse Effect? " Greenhouse Effect is a natural process that
warms the Earths surface Sir."

Very Good!
“These are the Carbon dioxide, Methane,
What are the different greenhouse gases Water Vapor, Ozone, Nitrous oxide and
that are present in the atmosphere? Chlorofluorocarbons.”

Brilliant! “ We will experience an increase in

If we give off too much greenhouse gas in earth’s temperature which is also called
the atmosphere, what will happen to our Global Warming”
beloved earth?

Yes, What a sharp mind!

Since, each of us already know what is "Protect and save the Mother earth. Use
the role of greenhouse effect and on how free energy wisely, plant more trees and
it cause us a lot just like the burning of help prevent the ozone depletion in the
plastics and other activities of human, Earth’s atmosphere.”
which can destroy the Earth. What can a
student do to prevent this from
happening?

That was a very Good Idea!

c. Motivation

Today class I prepared a video presentation

showing the beauty of the Philippines . In the
video you will see how blessed the Philippines is
when it comes to naturals resources and
wonders. I want you to appreciate the nature
that we have here in our country.
Are you ready to watch it my students? Yes, maam

" Played the Video" " After watching the video I have realized that
the Philippines is really a rich country when it
So now that you've watch the video what can comes to our natural resources and I feel so
you say about the Philippines ? blessed that I have witness the true beauty of
nature."

d. Lesson Proper

So now class let us define what is natural

resources?

Natural resources are materials from the Earth

that are used to support life and meet people’s
needs. Any natural substance that humans use
can be considered a natural resource.
( Anwers vary in each student)
So can anybody give an example of natural
resources? "Oil, coal, natural gas, metals, stone and sand
are natural resources."

Very Good!

Other natural resources are air, sunlight, soil

and water. Animals, birds, fish and plants are
natural resources as well.

Natural resources are used to make food, fuel

and raw materials for the production of goods.
All of the food that people eat comes from
plants or animals. Natural resources such as
coal, natural gas and oil provide heat, light and
power. Natural resources also are the raw
materials for making products that we use
everyday from our toothbrush and lunch box to
our clothes, cars, televisions, computers and
refrigerators.

Now, since we are talking about natural

resources, let us now name out the natural
resources we have here in the Philippines.

We are blessed with the presence of different

water forms.

What are the water forms that is present here in Rivers, lakes, straits, swamps, gulfs, falls and
our country? bays.

Why are these body forms important to the These bodies of water support the survival of
environment ? diverse organisms for food as well as for
economic activities.

Precisely.

It is important because it is needed for life to

exist. Many uses of water include agricultural,
industrial, household, recreational and
environmental activities. Virtually all of these
human uses require fresh water. Only 2.5% of
water on this is frozen in glaciers and polar ice
caps.

Now, let us talk about the plants and animals

that we can find in our country.

Since our country is rich also in biodiversity,

Philippines is considered to be the "home of
endemic species".

What is Endemic Species? "Endemic species are plants and animals that
exist only in one geographic region. Species
can be endemic to large or small areas of the
earth: some are endemic to a particular
continent, some to part of a continent, and
Very good! others to a single island."

Based on the data of the Department of

Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the
Philippines has an estimated 207 terrestrial
mammals (133 are endemic), 691 birds (239
endemic), 419 reptiles (241 endemic) and 120
amphibians (98 endemic).

What are some examples of endemic species Tarsier in Bohol, Tamaraw in Mindoro and
that you know ? Mouse Deer or Pilandok in Palawan .

Did you know that in Camiguin Island there are

also a number of endemic species?

These are
some of the
endemic
birds in
Camiguin

* Yellowish
bulbul

*Black-naped
Monarch Hypothymis azurea catarmanensis

*Orange-bellied Flowerpecker Dicaeum

trigonostigma isidroi

There are also non-

bird endemic
species in the island
like the two species of mice (Apomys and
Bullimus) and an endemic species of frog
Oreophryne nana.

So now, let us proceed to the mineral deposits

of the country.

What are the minerals that you know? Gold, iron ore, lead, zinc, chromite, and
copper.
The Philippines' top mineral exports are copper,
gold and nickel. Other target minerals include
quartz, mica, iron, gypsum, feldspar, chromite,
calcite and sulphur. Some target non-metallic
minerals are sand and gravel, limestone, marble,
clay and other quarry materials.

Now, let us proceed to the energy sources.

The country produces oil, natural gas, and coal.

Geothermal, hydropower, and other renewable
sources account for a significant share of
electricity generation. In 2019, total primary
energy consumption in the Philippines was
about 1.9 quadrillion British thermal units (Btu).

Who can give me an example of energy

resources in the country?

- Geothermal Energy Plant located at Pugahan,

Very Good! Valencia.

So now that you have learned about the

different natural resources of the country let us
begin to tackle the effects of human activities to
our natural resources.

Can anyone give me an example of human

activities that can harm our environment?

Burning of fossil fuel, deforestation and too

Very good! much waste maam.
Humans impact the physical environment in
many ways: overpopulation, pollution, burning
fossil fuels, and deforestation. Changes like
these have triggered climate change, soil
erosion, poor air quality, and undrinkable water.

As what we can see nature has provided us

everything that we need so it is just a must that
we take good care of it. And take actions to help
conserve and protect it.

IV. EVALUATION
Put check under the picture on natural resources found in the Philippines.

Direction: In a 1 piece sheet of paper, answer the question below.

1. As a student how can you help in preserving the natural resources of the country?

2. What are some ways that you can suggest in order to ensure the sustainability of our
natural resources?

V. ASSIGNMENT

Make a poster slogan about ways on preserving nature and post it on social media in order
to raise awareness to people specially to the younger generation.
