ELECTRICAL WORKSHOP 2
Name: Medenilla Lloyd L. Course, Yr. & Sec.: BSEE – 1H______Subject: ESW2
Group No. Time: Days: Rm. Date: May 25, 2022
Professor/Instructor: Engr. Edwin Espinas Rating:
Activity No. 5
ACROSS THE LINE MAGNETIC MOTOR STARTER
(Non- Reversing)
I. OBJECTIVES:
ELECTRICAL WORKSHOP 2
III. Bill of Materials

ELECTRICAL WORKSHOP 2
I. Draw your complete Control and Power Circuit Diagram Via EKTS or SIMURELAY
Note: Simulation diagram can be print screen below
VI. PROCEDURE:
1. Present to the instructor for checking your simulated diagram.
2. Prepare tools, materials and devices needed for the activity. Check their condition using an ohmmeter.
Record continuity resistance reading on table 1 for actual activity execution.
3. Connect the circuit base on shown diagram if perform in actual.
4. Place the test probes of the ohmmeter to Line 1 and Line 2 to test the continuity of the circuit. Observe
resistance reading.
5. Press the start button while the test probes are still at Line 1 and 2. Observe the reading.
6. Trip the overload relay. Observe the reading also.
7. Energize the circuit only if you are totally sure of your connections are secured and correct since no
supervision of your Instructor for face to face checking, Safety First! Record your observation in evaluation.
8. De-energize the circuit upon completion. Remove the plugs then clear the area.
9. If able to perform in actual, take pictures all conditions mentioned on number 10.
10. For simulated data, print screen all the conditions mentioned and record in the table 1 & 2.
a. IDLE condition power ON both power and control circuit.
b. START push button pressed.
c. OVERLOAD TRIP condition.
d. OVERLOAD RESET condition.
e. RE-STARTED then pressed STOP push button.

VIII. CONCLUSION:
(Discuss how an across the line motor starter function by referring to your ladder diagram)
The across line motor consist of two buttons, the first one is for starting the motor and the second
one is for stoping the motor, the parts of the control circuit is TOL/NC and NC Holding Contacts, auxiliary
contacts, start and stop buttons and the 3 indicator lamp. And in the power circuit the 3 power supply with
neutral, disconnecting switch, main circuit breaker , main contacts , overload relay, and the 3 phase motor.
When we look at the diagram we can see all the parts of the control circuit and power circuit, and I use
into that is the ladder diagram, if we look at that they are all de energize, but if we energize the diagram , we
will press the main contact , disconnecting switch, motor control protection and the CCP, and it will be in the
IDLE Condition that says the motor is ready to run, and if we press the start push button the motor will start
and the contactor coil and the run lamp wll light, and if we assume that there’s are some problem we can

press the termal overload if the motor will trip, if the motor will trip the TRIP Conditon will energized because
it is connected into the TOL and the motor will not run because the TRIP Lamp is Energized, and if we unpress
the TOL it must be back into IDLE Condition and if we press the ES or Emergency Switch Buttom, The Circuit
Must be all De energize.
IX. EVALUATION:
2. Why is the reason of connecting in series a normally open contact of an overload relay and an indicator
lamp for fault condition?
This normally-closed contact is usually connected in series with the relay coil, so that when it opens the
relay will automatically de-energize, to shutting off power to the motor. There reason that’s connected in
series is because the current will pass through the indicator light, which that the motor will be in TRIP
condition. Since the normally open relay contact is connected in series, the trip lamp will only depend on the
relay contact. So if the overload relay contact is normally open, then the red indicator lamp will turn on when
the thermal overload is pressed because the overload relay contact will close, after that, then it will let the
current to go to the lamp.
3. In case of emergency base on the given circuit, which component needs to be pressed and what will be
the appropriate one to install.
It will be useful if you use the emergency switch button because this switch will de-energize the whole
motor to prevent the overheating or breaking the motor, and when it is pressed you cant easily run or open
the motor, but also we can use the disconnecting switch because it’s purpose is to let the flow through the
parts of the motor circuit and also to stop it, when the disconnecting switch is not pressed the current will not
flow because it is blocked by the discontenting switch and also it will help to protect the motor into the
overheating nor harmfulling the other parts..
