Chapter 3

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the discussion of the research design, population of

the study, research instrument, data gathering procedure, and statistical

treatment used in analyzing the data.

Method of Research

This study utilized the experimental method of research. The profile of the

respondents and the least mastered skills were analyzed with the use of

frequency count, percentage and averaging technique. The t-Test was used to

determine the performance of the pupils in MTB-MLE 3 with and without the use

of E-Storybooks.

Population, Sample Size and

Sampling Technique

This study employed total enumeration of the respondents. The

respondents of this study were eight Grade 3 teachers of Zone 2, Capalonga

District, Camarines Norte

Description of Respondents

The respondents of this study were eight grade 3 teachers of Zone 2,

Capalonga District, Camarines Norte. These teachers are from four Elementary

Schools located near or along the Bagong Silang – Capalonga road where the

mother tongue are the same.

Research Instrument

A questionnaire was used as data collection instrument. The questionnaire

has three parts. Part 1 was about the profile of the respondents; Part 2 was

about the least mastered skills of the pupils that the respondents are handling

and the part 3 was about the acceptability of the E-Storybook as an instructional

material.

T-test was also used to determine the difference between the control and

the experimental group or the pupils’ performance with and without the use of E-

Storybook

Data Gathering Procedure

The researcher personally distributed the first two parts of the

questionnaire. Such was the basis in designing and developing e-storybooks to

address the least mastered skills of the pupils. After developing the E-Storybook

the part 3 of the questionnaire was distributed together with the E-Storybooks.

The teachers used the E-Storybook in the experimental group and the traditional

storytelling style to the control group in the lesson and administered a 20 item

test to determine the difference between the performance of the two groups.

The data gathered were tabulated, organized, analyzed and interpreted

quantitatively.

Statistical Treatment of Data

The data gathered from the questionnaire were analyzed and interpreted
36

through the use of various statistical tools.

Frequency count and percentage technique were used to determine the

profile of the respondents in terms age, sex, length of service and employment

status. The t-Test for one sample was used to measure the significant difference

on pupils’ performance in MTB-MLE with the use of E-Storybook as instructional

material and if there is a significant difference on pupils’ comprehension level in

MTB-MLE without the use of e-storybook. T-Test was used to compare two

different set of values.
