Chapter 2

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter presented the process on how the research was

undertaken. It covered the discussion on the research method, respondents

of the study, research instrument, the procedures in the conduct of the study,

and the statistical treatment of the data.

Research Design

The researchers utilized the descriptive survey method of research to

describe the data gathered under the present investigation. According to

Sevilla, the descriptive survey method shows the analysis of appraisal of the

data since it describes the situation or conditions, practices and beliefs,

trends and patterns of the situation under study. It is the method that tells

"what is". Moreover, the process of descriptive research goes beyond mere

gathering of tabulation data. It involves an element of interpretation of

meaning of significance.

Weighted Mean

Weighted Mean was employed to quantify the data to describe the

level of knowledge and awareness of criminology students on Sex Education.

WM = weighted mean

F = frequency of number of responses

N = number of responses

T = total

Five-Point Rating Scale

The Likert-Type scale will be used in quantifying and interpreting the

weighted mean of the extent of knowledge and awareness among the

students of Ceguera Technological Colleges on Sex Education.

Stratified Random Sampling was used in the selection of the

respondents which are the selected students from 3rd year Criminology.

Respondents of the Study

Respondents of the study are the 3rd Year Criminology Student. They

are the one who provides information, answers questions, or offer their

perspectives on the topic. Table 1 describes the distribution of the

respondents of the study using Slovin's Formula.

Slovin’s Formula

This is used to calculate the sample size (n) of the respondents given

the population size (N) and margin of error (e). It is computed by the formula

below.

Given: (n) - sample size

(N) - population size

(e) - margin of error

Research Instrument

Data pertinent to the present study were gathered using self-made

questionnaires. Some of the indicators/questions that were used were lifted

directly from the internet, thesis, and dissertation.

Data Gathering Tools

The researchers used a self-made survey questionnaire in collecting

data. The questionnaire was the main tool used in the study to assess the

level of knowledge and awareness of sex education among Criminology

student of Ceguera Technological Colloges.

Preparation of Questionnaire

There searchers reviewed the related concepts and applicable

procedures. Some questions were lifted from the internet, thesis, and

dissertation. It will be distributed to respondents personally by the

researchers.

Validation of the Questionnaire

Researchers created a self-made survey questionnaire where some of the

questions were lifted from the internet and checked by panel. Then the

questionnaire will be given to the respondents thru face to face modality.

Administration and Retrieval of the Questionnaire

When finalization of the questionnaires was done, the researchers first

sought the permission of the School President or Dean of the different

departments. The researchers then distributed the questionnaire to the

respondents personally.

Statistical Tools

The responses were classified and tabulated systematically according

to variables included in the study. The statistical tools used are frequency

distribution, percentage technique, weighted mean, and five-point likert-type

Scale.

Frequency Distribution

The tabulation of the scores or measures were grouped with class

intervals. These were used to determine the frequencies of scores that will

describe the profile of respondents of this study.

Percentage

In order to determine the respondents’ appraisal which consisted of

the raw counts of the frequencies of occurrence of the characteristics under

consideration, this technique was used. The formula for percentage is

indicated below:

Where:

P- percentage

∑R -summation of the number of responses

N -the total number o
