A Detailed Lesson Plan in Technology and Livelihood Education

Horticulture – Grade 10
September 27, 2017

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:
a. identify the composition of growing media,
b. draw a graph representing the composition of a growing media; and
c. acknowledge the proper mixture of a growing media

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: composition of a good growing media

III. PROCEDURE

A. Preliminary Activities

prayer”

2. Greetings (one student will lead the prayer)

types of components.

What do you think is our topic for today?

C. Lesson Proper
Our lesson for today is all about the
composition of a good growing media. I have
a pie graph in here showing the basic
components of a growing media.

Based on the pie graph shown what can you Sir, components of a growing media are the pre-

ingredients that are mixed with other components
to create the growing media.

Before moving on to the common types of

materials/components used in a growing
media I have a web chart. There are only five
correct answers in the set of in the set of
words that are posted in there. I want you to
guess those 5 materials and post it in the
chart.

Peat moss is formed by the accumulation of plant

One common material that is used in mixing a materials in poorly drained areas.

What can you say about it?

Peats are used because it is less acidic and

Here are some examples of commonly used
soilless mixtures for greenhouse crops.

2:1/3:1 peat, sand
2:1:1 peat, bark, sand

These are the best soil medium for general

nursery purposes.

For loam soil.

 1-part manure or decomposed manure
 1-part decomposed rice hull
For clay soil
 1-part clay soil
 2 parts compost or manure
 1-part decomposed rice hull/sieved

D. Enrichment Activity
I will group you into four. You are grouped (the students went to their respective groups)
based on your row. Row 1 will be group 1,
row 2 will be group 2, row 3 will be group 3,
and row 4 will be group 4.

Go to your respective groups and form an arc. Yes sir

I want each member of the group to work
together to draw a graph and label it
according to the type of growing media that
you’ll draw. I will give you 5 minutes to
finish the task. Your time starts now.

E. Generalization
Congratulations class for a job well done
during the activity. Now I’m going to ask
some questions if you really understood our
lesson for today.

not support the plant properly so we must always
mix the growing media accurately and correctly.

Very good class, bring out 1/4 sheet of paper

and get ready for a short quiz.

IV. EVALUATION
1. Enumerate the components of a loam soil.
2. Enumerate the components of a clay soil.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Bring soil components to be checked next meeting.
