The Department of Education continues to require every school to

put a productive and successful vegetable garden under the Gulayan sa

Paaralan Program (GPP) in the new normal to provide the needed
vegetables for school feeding program, to ensure the quality of education
by surpassing the malnutrition among students, and to boost the awareness
of the students on the significance of growing vegetables in times of
pandemic.
This school year 2021-2022, the Division of Valencia City
implemented the Star School and Offices Program which aims to create a
motivating and supportive environment in schools, to ensure a safe
environment for learners and personnel, and to sustain the interest of
learners and personnel in reporting to school and for stakeholders to
provide resources for school operation. Part of the criteria is the Gulayan
sa Paaralan Program which includes the vegetable production, area of
school garden sites and among others.
To continuously strengthen and intensify the implementation of the
Gulayan sa Paaralan Program despite the COVID-19 pandemic,
Sinayawan Central School initiates the school innovations entitled
“Gulayan Beautification Project and Gulayan sa Tahanan” which
center on the establishment of Vegetable Park and Garden in the school to
promote not only the vegetable production but also wellness and mental
health within the school community, and to allow students to establish
home garden to support schooling finances at the same time to suffice
needs at home.
On 4 October 2021, Mrs. Merlie Abecia and the select teachers
headed by Mr. Benes H. Dopitillo initiated an orientation to orient
teachers, parents and stakeholders on the implementation of Gulayan sa
Paaralan Program and also to encourage them to participate by
contributing their time, effort and resources. The school recruited
volunteers who would participate in the beautification of school garden.
Parents, Members of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) and
other people from the community were joined. It was on 1st week of
February when the principal and the team set the meeting with the 4Ps
parent leaders of all clusters in the Barangay. It was agreed during the
meeting that per cluster will render a voluntary service in school garden
for one day. Prior to the voluntary service rendered by the 4Ps members,
the group of teachers had conducted the clean-up drive. Moreover, the
school requested all teachers and pupils in all grade level to bring variety
of planted vegetables and plastic bottles.
The school initiated the activity entitled Planting of Malunggay in
School to mobilize all the pupils in the revitalized tree planting and
greening program and to instill in the minds of the Filipino child and youth
the vital role and value of trees and other natural resources in maintaining
the ecosystem through in their active involvement in relevant tree planting
and greening projects.
On 9 February 2022, the school conducted the Focus Group
Discussion (FGD) to address the issues and concern in the implementation
of the program. It was discussed that the project had no enough budget and
limited resources. Thus, the teachers decided to collect thousands of
plastic bottles in the streets, schools, restaurants, dumpsites, etc. Also, they
went to Material Recovery Facility and volcanizing shops in the city to
collect used tires and jars. With the partnership of PTA, and other
stakeholders, the project has collected almost 30,000 pesos needed for
materials, labor, transportation, etc.
To extend the implementation of Gulayan sa Paaralan to the
community, the school iniated the Gulayan sa Tahanan through
conducting a search for the best home garden. The school initiated projects
were successfully implemented through the participation and involvement
of students, parents and other members of the community.
Evidences of the activities that are conducted are attached
herewith.
