Setuation 1.

1. The students are still confused about reading the graduation in the unit of measurement in the English and metric system.
2. They have not yet given the correct measure because they are not yet experts in changing the lowest term of a fraction or decimal number.
Time frame Monthly/Quarterly

Activity Materials needed: Illustration of large scale of graduation of unit of measurement, Ruler, or any measuring tool.
For English system and fraction number:
1. Using the pie drawing, begin to explain why there is a fraction number.
2. draw a line and divide by two, by four, by eight, by sixteen, and explain the fraction in each division.
3. By drawing lines, explain to the students that the inch unit has sixteen divisions before having one inch measurement. At the same time
teach them how to change the fraction number in the lowest term.
4. Show the similar form of measure to the students and teach what the equivalent fraction is on the graduation lines.
5. Teach to read scale and include the fraction number, first from short to long scale in inches.
For metric system and decimal number: (Use the smallest unit of measurement in the metric system as first reference)
1. Draw a line and divide it into ten parts. Let them memorize that counting on each line is by ten. To put a point on the number on the left
side will be the corresponding decimal number for each graduation.
2. Point out each line and mention what decimal number it corresponds, and repeat until they have memorized it.
3. Teach to read the graduation beyond a whole number by adding the fraction number.
For conversion of fraction to decimal:
1. Review Basic mathematical operations.
2. Teach how to change a fraction to a decimal by dividing the numerator by the denominator.
3. Teach how to change a decimal to a fraction by putting the given number as a denominator that corresponds to tens, hundreds,
thousandths or how many are needed according to the decimal number given.
Application:
A. Read the measurements below:
22. 27.
21. 26.
20. 25.
19. 24.
18. 23.

0 Inch 1 2 0 Cm 1 2
B. Convert the following measurements.

28 ¼ to decimal _____________
29. ¾ to decimal _____________
30. 7/16 to decimal _____________
31. 3/8 to decimal _____________
32. 1/8 to decimal _____________
C. Convert decimals into fractions.
33. 0.25 _____________
34. 0.50 _____________
35. 0.75 _____________
36. 0.375 _____________

Result 33out of 35 passed the test given. The teacher will provide another form of activity to others who did not get the lesson.

Synthesis The use elementary teaching method helped them to better understand the lessons, their lack of basic knowledge that they did not learn when they
were still in elementary school is an obstacle to the current lessons.
