Own Philosophy of Self

By Yousef Abdulrahman E. Lawal

I would describe myself as someone who can adapt to the situation without complaining or worrying
about the result too much. When I am in a very intense situation, I intend to be calm and relaxed, but
not too calm, and then I won’t be able to react or have that tension to help me get out of that intense
situation. Taking care of my family and loved ones especially when they are ill or hurt is something I
cannot reject from doing. I would usually ask them if they need help first or help them immediately
without them asking. So as you can tell, I also a dependable person. I am someone who is friendly to
some people and sometimes keeps his distance from those he doesn’t like. I am more of an ambivert. I
usually get good grades at school even though; I am not very attentive during class. Islam is my religion,
and I do believe that there is only one God, we will all return to him after death. Being trustworthy, not
lying and keeping a friend’s secret is something I do. I like to keep my life simple and do my best not to
be always seeking materialistic materials, fame and prestige. I do my best not to speak in a vulgar way
and always be polite and respect others whoever he/she may be.

What makes me different from other selves is the fact that I am not selfish, easily approachable, always
trying to understand people, I don’t have an ego, not the biggest fan of showing off to others. Most of
the time, I am more of a listener than a talker. Being honest is one of my policies. I am always ready to
learn, as long as I have the commitment and the dedication for it.

When I was younger, I was immature and naïve, I didn’t know the ups and downs of life. I was still calm,
relaxed and getting good grades in school like I am today, but I wasn’t very adaptable and honest. My
younger self still didn’t know the true purpose of God but as time passed by, I soon started to realize. I
was and still am a developing person.

I would describe the relationship of myself to my body as a way of maintaining or taking care it. The way
I eat, sleep and exercise affects my mind and body, as well as personal hygiene and cleanliness of my
surroundings. So far, my body and I are in a good relationship as I do my best to make sure my body is in
optimal condition.

I come to know other selves when I observe them and communicate with them. I can observe how they
behave to other selves, so I can have an idea of their character. They are similar to some extent, but as a
whole they are completely different. Everyone is unique in their own ways.

After I die, I believe that my body will stay in this world and decompose while my soul which is immortal
will go back to God, and from there God will decide the rest of my future depending on my actions in the
world where I was still alive.
