OBJECTIVE
Content Standard The learners demonstrate the appreciation of contemporary art
forms, found in the various regions by understanding the elements
and principles and understand the significant roles of artist from the
region.
Performance Standard  The learner’s present s form of integrated contemporary art
based on the region of his/her choice.

 The learners creates avenues to advocate the arts from the


different regions
Learning Competency Explains Filipino artist’s role and identify their contribution to
contemporary arts.

Lesson Plan
Review- The teacher will let the students recall their
previous lesson about Research on Contemporary Arts in the
Philippines.

(Teacher Dawn) 5 minutes


Motivation The teacher will introduce a game called
Arrange Me and Get to Know Me. The mechanics of the
game are simple. First, they have to arrange the jumble
words, then they will say something about the pictures, and
hint what is the relation of these words/pictures to each
other. The first three students to finish arranging the words
will be given plus points during their assessment at the end
of the class period.

Activity/Strategy (Teacher Dawn)


(PLENARY) After the activity the teacher will relate the motivation to the
present lesson which is Understanding the National Artists
(2 MINUTES) Award.
The teacher will then introduce to the students the following
learning objectives.

At the end of the lesson, the learners are able to:


a. Identify the Filipino National Artists’ works in public
spaces;
b. Understand the motives and influences of the National
Artist Award in the context of society; and
c. Design an Infographic containing a Filipino National
Artist and its contribution to Contemporary Arts.

Analysis The teachers will be assigned individually to the break out


(BREAKOUT rooms to discuss the lesson in Understanding the National
ROOMS) Artists Award. This will be an interactive discussion since
the teachers will ask questions to the students. Students can
(25 MINUTES) share their ideas and background knowledge if they have
about the lesson. (Teacher Dawn and Teacher Jerald)
- The teacher will then provide a PowerPoint
presentation for the lesson proper.

What is National Artist Awards?

- Established in 1972 under Proclamation No. 1001


- A.k.a Gawad Pambansang Alagad ng Sining
- It recognizes excellence in the fields of Music, Dance,
Theater, Visual Arts, Literature, Film and Broadcast
Arts, and Architecture or Allied Arts.
- The Order of National Artists of the Philippines is an
order bestowed by the Philippines on Filipinos who
have made significant contributions to the
development of Philippine art.

Works of National Artists in Public Spaces:

- Oblation (1935)
- By Guillermo Tolentino
- Awarded in 1973
- a geometric sculpture portraying a nude male with
hands extended in an expression of sacrifice and
freedom.

- Caligraphy Artwork (1980)


- By Abdulmari Asia Imao
- Awarded in 2006
- the abstracted calligraphic script of the name
of God point to the spiritual wellsprings that his art
surges from –an engaged spirituality

- Variations of Sabel (2015)


- By Benedicto Cabrera
- Awarded in 2006
- Sabel was a symbol of dislocation, despair, and
isolation

- Barter of Panay (1978)


- Created through the collaborative pieces of Jose Joya
who was a painter (awarded 2003) and Napoleon

- it is composed of alternating zones of black, white,
orange, brown, and golden yellow in an Abstract
Expressionist style.

- architectural vision of Leandro Locsin
- Awarded in 1990
- spherical structure was symbolized as reminiscent of
a flying saucer and was highly focused towards
space travel and scientific and technological
developments of the 1950s.

- Stations of the Cross


- By Vicente Manansala
- Awarded in 1981 with the help of Ang Kiukok
(awarded 2001).
- One of the most iconic masterpieces of National
Artist Vicente Silva Manansala are the 15 Stations of
the Cross-mural’s paintings installed at the Church of
the Holy Sacrifice of the University of the Philippines
in Diliman, Quezon City.

2. Search for the artist’s background/ needed information
and its contribution to Contemporary Arts.
3. Then design an Infographic.
4. Include in the infographic the artist, its important
background information and mention his contribution to
Contemporary Arts.
5. Pass your work on a designated classwork folder in your
respective google classroom. Only one representative per
group can upload the output and kindly indicate the
names of your groupmates upon submitting your work.
6. Below is the rubric for your reference.
