anything that occupies space and has mass. Matter has different
properties that make them different from one another. Some types of
matter have properties that make them good materials for producing
useful products. Other types have properties that make them harmful.
Look around your surroundings. Can you name some matter?

Body Care Agents Medicine

Materials can be classified into three (3) groups:  personal body care
products, cleaning products or agents, and medicines.

practicing new skills #1. Personal Body Care Products – these are materials that we use in
cleaning our body. It includes:
▪ Bath Products – shampoo, conditioner, body wash, shaving
cream, facial cream
▪ Mouth Care – Toothpaste, Mouthwash
▪ Hair Products - Gel, Hair Wax Hair Spray, Hair Coat, Pomade
▪ Lip Products – Lip Balm, Lipstick, Lip Gloss
▪ Body Products – Lotion, Body Soap, Sunscreen, Moisturizer,
Deodorant, Body Gel
▪ Nail Products – Nail Polish, Nail Polish Remover
▪ Fragrances – Perfume, Cologne, Body Mist
▪ Cosmetics – Eye Shadow, Mascara, Brow Liner, Blush On,
Concealer, Foundation

Cleaning Agents- these are materials or products used to clean things


and the surroundings.
▪ Antiseptics – prevents growth of bacteria.
Example: Agua Oxinada – use to clean wounds

▪ Disinfectants – chemical that destroys bacteria


Example: Lysol Disinfectant Spray

▪ Deodorizers – used to remove or conceal unpleasant smell


Example: Glade Air Freshener

▪ Detergents – a substance in the form of powder or liquid for


removing dirt
Example: Tide, Ariel

▪ Polishes – a substance applied to smooth or shine surfaces


Example: Floorwax

▪ Abrasives – a substance capable of polishing or cleaning hard


surface by rubbing or grinding.
Example: Paper Abrasives (papel de liha)

Medicines
▪ Vitamins, cough syrup for cough, inhalers for asthma,
paracetamol for fever and mefenamic acids for pain
