Câu trực tiếp

Câu trực tiếp (Direct Speech) được sử dụng tường thuật nguyên văn lời của người
nói. Trong văn viết, câu trực tiếp thường được để trong dấu ngoặc kép. 

Ví dụ:

 She says: “I am the best.”

Cô ấy nói: “Tôi là đỉnh nhất”

 My friend said: “I went out last night.”

Bạn tôi nói: “Tối hôm qua tớ đi chơi.”

Câu gián tiếp

Câu gián tiếp (Reported Speech) được sử dụng để thuật lại ý chính mà người khác
đã nói. Vì không thuật lại nguyên văn nên câu gián tiếp thường đứng sau “that” thay
vì được bỏ vào ngoặc kép.

Ví dụ:

 She said that he was fine.

Cô ấy nói cô ấy ổn.

 My mother said that she was cleaning the house.

Mẹ tôi nói bà ấy đang dọn nhà.
Quy Tắc Chuyển Câu Trực Tiếp Thành Câu Gián Tiếp

Trong tiếng Anh, khi muốn chuyển câu trực tiếp thành câu gián tiếp, các bạn cần

 Lùi thì

 Đổi ngôi, đổi tân ngữ

 Đổi trạng từ chỉ nơi chốn, thời gian. 

- Lùi thì của động từ

 Sự việc được tường thuật trong câu gián tiếp thường không xảy ra tại thời điểm
nói. Chính vì thế, khi chuyển câu trực tiếp thành câu gián tiếp, động từ cần
được lùi 1 thì về quá khứ so với thì của thời điểm nói.
 Ví dụ: động từ hiện tại đơn => quá khứ đơn, động từ quá khứ đơn => quá khứ
hoàn thành. Cụ thể như sau:

Should/ Could/ Might/ Must/ Would  Giữ nguyên

 trường hợp không thể thực hiện lùi thì khi chuyển từ câu trực tiếp sang câu gián
tiếp.

Nếu động từ tường thuật chia ở thì hiện tại, khi chuyển từ câu trực tiếp sang câu gián tiếp, động từ
chính và các trạng từ chỉ nơi chốn/ thời gian được giữ nguyên không đổi.

Ví dụ:

 My mom says: “I’m going to the market.”

(Mẹ tôi bảo: “Mẹ đang đi chợ.”)
Reported speech: My mom says she is going to the market.

Khi diễn tả một sự thật hiển nhiên.

Ví dụ:

 She said: “The sun rises in the East.”

Cô ấy nói: “Mặt trời mọc ở hướng Đông.”
Reported speech: She said that the Sun rises in the East.

Câu điều kiện loại 2 và loại 3 

Câu điều kiện loại 2 và loại 3 chúng ta sẽ không thực hiện lùi thì. Ví dụ:

 “If I were you, I would not do that.” She said

Reported speech: She said that if she were me, she would not do that.

Cấu trúc “Wish + quá khứ đơn/ quá khứ hoàn thành

Ví dụ:

Cấu trúc “It’s time somebody did something”

  “I wished I lived in Paris.” he said.
Reported speech: He said he wished he lived in Paris.

Ví dụ:

 “It’s time he finished his homeworks.” His mother said.

Reported speech: His mother said it was time he finished his homeworks. 

Đổi ngôi, đổi tân ngữ

Khi chuyển từ câu trực tiếp sang câu gián tiếp, ta cần lưu ý đổi ngôi, đổi đại từ nhân
xưng và tân ngữ cho phù hợp với ngữ nghĩa và hoàn cảnh.

Đổi trạng từ chỉ nơi chốn, thời gian

Trong câu gián tiếp, sự việc không xảy ra tại thời điểm hay địa điểm mà người nói
tường thuật. Chính vì thế, khi chuyển từ câu trực tiếp sang câu gián tiếp, cần chú ý đổi
trạng từ chỉ thời gian, nơi chốn. Cụ thể như sau:

Cách Chuyển Đổi Các Loại Câu Từ Trực Tiếp Sang Gián Tiếp

1. Câu tường thuật (Câu kể)

Câu tường thuật dùng để kể chuyện, mô tả, xác nhận, thông báo về một sự việc, hành
động nào đó. 

Cấu trúc:

S + động từ tường thuật (says/said/told…) + mệnh đề tường thuật

Ví dụ:

 “I’m going to a party tonight.” He said

Reported speech: He said that he was going to a party that night. 

2. Câu hỏi
Khi chuyển câu hỏi từ dạng trực tiếp sang dạng gián tiếp, ta có thể sử dụng một số
động từ như asked, wondered, wanted to know,…

a. Câu hỏi nghi vấn Yes/No

Để đổi câu hỏi nghi từ từ dạng trực tiếp sang gián tiếp, ta cần

 Đổi vị trí của động từ và chủ ngữ trong câu

 Thêm if hoặc whether vào trước câu hỏi. 

Cấu trúc:

S + asked/ wanted to know/ wondered + if/whether + S + V + …

Ví dụ:

 “Are you ok?” My friend asked.

Reported speech: My friend asked if I was ok.

b. Câu hỏi có từ để hỏi Wh-

Cấu trúc:

S + asked/ wanted to know/ wondered + Wh + S + V + …

Ví dụ:

 “What are you reading?” She asked

Reported speech: She asked what I was reading. 

3. Câu mệnh lệnh, yêu cầu

Để chuyển câu mệnh lệnh, yêu cầu ở dạng trực tiếp sang dạng gián tiếp, ta sử dụng
một số động từ như asked, told, demanded, ordered,…

Cấu trúc:

S + asked/ told/ demanded,… + O + (not) + to V + …

Ví dụ:
  “Close the door, please.” The teacher said
Reported speech: The teacher asked me to close the door. 

 “Don’t move the table.” my father said

Reported speech: My father told us not to move the table. 

4. Một số trường hợp đặc biệt khi chuyển từ câu trực tiếp thành câu
gián tiếp

 Câu đề nghị, lời mời với shall/ would

Ví dụ: “Shall I make you a coffee?” He said

Reported speech: He offered to make me a coffee.

Reported speech: He suggested making me a coffee. 

 Câu yêu cầu lịch sự với can/ could/ will/ would

Ví dụ: “Will you help me with the homeworks?” my friend asked.

Reported speech: My friends asked me to help her with the homeworks. 

 Câu cảm thán

Ví dụ: “What a beautiful dress!” said Anna

Reported speech: Anna exclaimed that the dress was beautiful. 

  Câu trực tiếp gồm nhiều loại câu khác nhau: câu hỏi, câu mệnh lệnh, câu khẳng
định,…

Ví dụ:

He asked “Can you speak Chinese?” and I said “No.”

Anh ấy hỏi: “Bạn có biết nói tiếng Trung Quốc không? Và tôi nói “Không.”

Reported speech: He asked me if I could speak Chinese and I said that I could not. 

 Cấu trúc: S + V + O + V(ing)/N (Gerund)

Ví dụ: He said: “Sorry I’m late.”

Reported speech: He apologized for being late.

Anh ấy xin lỗi vì đã đến muộn

My sister said: “She broke the vase.” 

Reported speech: My sister accused me of breaking the vase.

Em gái tôi buộc tôi làm vỡ cái bình

 Cấu trúc: S + V + to V(inf)

Ví dụ: “I will call you tonight.”  He said

Reported speech: He promised to call me tonight.

Anh ấy hứa sẽ gọi tôi tối nay.
