Problem 1

 Water flows at a rate of 0.02 m3/s from a reservoir A to reservoir B through


three concrete pipes connected in a series as shown in the figure. Find the
difference in water-surface elevation in the reservoirs. Neglect minor losses.

 Figure shows a looping pipe system. Pressure heads at points A and E are
70m and 46m respectively. Compute the flow rate of water through each
branch of the loop. Assume C=120 for all pipes

 A two branch commercial steel pipe system delivers 0.42 m3/s of water. The
pressure at B is 22kPa gage. What is the pressure at A? Neglect minor losses.

 The total head loss from A to E as shown in the figure is 20 m. Use f = 0.02 for
all pipes. Find the discharge at lines 2, 1 and 4.
Problem 7

 A single pipeline x joins pipelines 1, 2 and 3 at the junction A, and merges


again at junction B to form a single pipeline y. Pipelines 1, 2, and 3 are
parallel to each other. The pressure heads at A and B are 70m and 46 m.
respectively. Assuming C = 120 for all pipelines, compute the rate of flow of
pipelines 1, 2 and 3.
Problem 8

 The system of pipe connections is as follow. Assuming C = 120 for all pipes
and assume that the rate of flow for each network is 0.085 m3/s. (a)
Calculate the total headloss of system A. (b) Calculate the discharge of
line 2 of system B. (c) Which of the system has the greater capacity ( Hiint :
the one with the lowest headloss has the greatest capacity)

 Water is being discharged from a reservoir through a turbine as shown. C = 120


for all pipes, Rate of flow is 0.28 cu.m/s. (a) Determine the total head loss of the
pipe. (b) Determine the energy extracted by the turbine to generate 56 kW of
power. (c) Determine the elevation of the water surface in the reservoir that
would be required in order for the turbine to generate 56 kW of power.
Problem 10

 Two reservoirs A and B, feed a third rervoir C as shown in the figure. Assuming
constant reservoir water levels given in the figure and making use of the data
given in the table below, Compute the discharge flowing in or out each reservoir.
Problem 11

 The design of a city water supply system is shown in the figure below. Pipe 1
is 300 mm diameter and 900 m long, pipe 2 is 200 mm diameter and 387 m
long, and pipe 3 is 200 mm diameter and 700 m long. The roughness
coefficient for all pipes is 0.011. Calculate the flow in pipe 1 2 and 3.
Problem 12

 Given are three reservoir A, B and C having elevations of 200m, 150m and
100m. Reservoir A and Junction is connected by pipe 1, reservoir B and
junction connected by pipe 2 and reservoir C is connected to junction by
pipe 3. Find the flow rate in each pipe. Give the total energy at the
junction.

 In the figure shown, the flow from reservoir A is 438 liters/sec. Use Manning’s

power extracted by the turbine DE if the pressure head at E is -3 m.
Problem 14

 Determine the flow into or out each reservoir in the pipe system shown. Use
n = 0.11 , L1 = 1200m , L2 = 900m, L3 = 1500m, D1 = 30 cm, D2 = 20 cm, D3 = 15
cm.
Problem 15

 The pipe shown serves two town C and D. The highest building in town C is
at elevation 21 m and that of town D is 18m. If f = 0.020 for all pipes, what is
the flow in each pipe? If the per capital consumption in the two towns is 3.5
mL/s, how many persons could be served in each town?
Problem 16

 The diameters of the suction and discharge pipes of a pump are 15 and 10
cm respectively. The discharge pressure is read by a gage at appoint 1.5
m. above the centerline of the pump and the suction pressure is read by a
gage 0.6 m. below the centerline. If the pressure gage reads 140 kPa and
the suction gage reads a vacuum of 21 cm Hg when gasoline is pumped
at the rate of 35 liters/sec (SG of gasoline is 0.75)
