THIRD QUARTER
Lesson Title The Power of Non - Verbal Forms of Communication Remarks

Time Frame January 30 – 31; February 1- 17, 2023

Content Standard The learner demonstrates understanding of how Anglo-American literature and other text types serve as means of
connecting to the world; also how to use ways of analysing one-act play and different forms of verbal for him/her to skilfully
perform in a one-act play.

Performance Standard The learner skilfully performs in one-act play through utilizing effective verbal and non-verbal strategies and ICT resources
based on the following criteria: Focus, Voice, Delivery, and Dramatic Conventions.

Value Standard The learner demonstrate simplicity by speaking the truth.

Learning Targets At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to say, “I can…”

 recall what a one-act play is and its characteristics/elements


 identify the various nonverbal communication skills;
 determine the various forms of non-verbal forms of communication;
 determine the relevance and the truthfulness of the ideas presented in the material viewed;
 judge the relevance and worth of information/ ideas; and
 use /employ effective and appropriate non-verbal communication strategies in performances.

Day 1

I. Preliminary Activity (Read and Say Something Strategy)


 Present the title of the listening/Viewing material, “Don’t Allow Yourself to be Controlled by These Five Things”,
then ask the students to read and say something about it.
 Accomplish the table to check your comprehension (C-E-R Strategy)

Processing:
A. What does the author want to impart to his readers in the video?
B. How does the author help us believe his statement?
C. How do we know that the information we have received/have seen are true?
D. How do scammers persuade people?

II. Discussion of One-Act Play (Team Stay, 2 Stray)


 The Class will be divided into four groups and each member will be assigned a number.
 Each group will be given a particular topic to discuss, then the teacher will call two members of the group to
share what they have discussed in their group. Another pair will be called to share to another group until they
finish the four groups.
 The following topics will be given to the different groups:
1. History of One- Act Play
2. Definition of One- Act Play and its Characteristics
3. How to make a script for a One – Act Play
4. How to perform a One – Act Play

 Accomplish the worksheet to check your understanding. (Story Map)

Processing:
1. Were you able to get the different elements in the given text? Why or Why not?
2. What difficulty did you encounter?
3. How did you address this difficulty?

III. Closure

Synthesis: (One Sentence Summary)

 How will you differentiate a one-act play from a full –length play?

Day 2

I. Preliminary Activity (Video Clip)


 Ask the students to watch the video clip of Mr. Bean

Processing: (Oral Questioning)


1. Where you able to understand the video clip?
2. How did Mr. Bean communicate with his audience/viewers?
3. What are some of those nonverbal forms of communication used in the video clip?
II. Lesson Proper ( Lecture)
 Accomplish the word puzzle to recall the concepts on the other nonverbal forms of communication, then answer
the questions that follow. (Activating Prior Knowledge)

 Questions to Answer:
1. What is more important, nonverbal communication or verbal communication? Justify.
2. What are the common examples of nonverbal communication that Filipinos use in their everyday life?
3. Why do you think nonverbal communication is highly related to culture? Justify.
4. What do you think would happen to our system of communication if there is no nonverbal communication?

 Give the additional information about nonverbal communication. (Reading Text)


 Assessment (Charade)
Students are divided into five groups (5), then they pick the different situations that they have to portray while
the other groups guess.

A. A group of students who are summoned to the Principal’s office


B. A group of students who are desperate to use the rest room
C. First time to board an airplane
D. An open house to a haunted house
E. A group of patients waits in an ER waiting room

III. Closure

Processing:
1. What help you understand the message of the presentation?
2. Do you think nonverbal forms of communication really matter? Why?
3. How do the different forms of nonverbal communication affect the way we deal with people?

Assignment:
1. Recall your favorite movie. Choose your favorite lines (3-5) quoted from the famous movies, then write those lines in
your notebook.
2. Practice on how you will deliver those lines and ask somebody to critique your presentation using the checklist given.
3. Make sure to use appropriate nonverbal signals and be ready to present your output next week.
