The most surprising thing
for Ajay was that Tariq
and his family died right
after they fled
Afghanistan
The Soviets left and
Tariq’s family left right
after so it’s interesting
how violence continu, for
the Afghan civil war
I predicted that Tariq
would die; however, I
never believed it would be
so abrupt and didn’t think
his whole family would’ve
died.

Hana found it interesting
that Mariam wasn’t
supportive.
She believed that Mariam
would be supportive
because her and Laila are
in similar situations with
their marriage to
Rasheed. However,
Rasheed focusing more on
Laila is similar to how he
gave attention to Mariam
when they first married.
I also found it interesting
that Mariam wasn’t
supportive of Laila.
Mariam spent years in her
situation with Rasheed
and his cruelty so I
would’ve thought that she
would give Laila tips
instead of shunning her.

Ending Part 1 so suddenly
shows that Mariam’s life
never gets better.
the end of Part 1 shows would get better because
Rasheed’s cruelty and she has been mistreated
Part 1 ending right after her whole life but this
shows that this is shows that it won’t.
Mariam’s life forever as
long as she is with
Rasheed.
Ajay: Babi told Mammy that
Women have lost rights as during the Soviet
the story has progressed occupation that it was a
good time to be a woman
in Afghanistan. But
during the civil war the
violence shows how
women lose their rights
and how Rasheed treats
his wives.

I forgot how Babi talked
about women rights
during the Soviet
occupation so, it was a
good reminder to add to
my viewpoint that women
lost their rights.
