Accomplishment Report on 2022 Pambansang Buwan at Araw ng Pagbasa

As stipulated in the Department of Education Memorandum DM-CI-2022-398 entitled 2022


Pambansang Buwan at Araw ng Pagbasa, the department is committed to ensure the improvement of the
learner’s reading performance as one of the priorities in the Learning Recovery Plan.

Its main objective are: to promote love for reading among learners and full awareness and the
understanding on the role of reading and literacy in cultivating critical thinking among our learners.

On November 8, 2022 a day after the recommended date of kick-off, Gerasimo Silva Villegas Sr.
National High School done its kick-off during the Flag raising ceremony with a short program. There was
a reading of the memorandum, followed by giving the Rationale, then it was followed by a Word for
Thoughts about the importance of Reading for learners, there was also the participation of the General
PTA – President sharing his thoughts on how will this activity help their learners, there was also the
reading of the Activity matrix for the one-month long celebration. The short program was ended with the
playing of the voice-over of the first Mystery Reader wherein it was also explained that right every after
the flag ceremony there will be a playing of a voice-over of the Mystery Reader for the day wherein the
students will have to guess the owner of the voice from the faculty with one peso coin as entry for the
raffle to be drawn every flag retreat. This is an income-generating project as well, wherein proceeds will
be purchased for the useful materials for the school and for additional support of the reading program
(READS) of the schools and funds for the culmination activity at the end of the month.

On the duration of the month-long activity, the coordinators decided to have the Share-a-Book
drive, Reading Pantry and Read-Athon on the said month.

While on the December 02, 2022 there was a culminating activity where Read-Draw-Tell and
Choral Reading Interpretation as contests for both Junior and Senior High students. The Read-Draw-
Tell has two categories, where Grades 7, 8, & 9 has a Filipino Reading text while Grades 10, 11 & 12 has
an English Reading text to be interpreted for their drawing and they also have to explain or tell what they
comprehend from the texts. The Read-Draw-Tell was conducted on the morning of the said date. The
second contest Choral Reading Interpretation was held during the program in the afternoon, were 5
members from each section will read chorally a piece and interpret it through voice projection and
diction. During the program there is an explanation of the importance of Reading skill, reading of the
Rationale, the contest proper, the Announcing of winners and giving of certificates to Board of Judges
and Working Committee.

Proceeds from the Mystery Reader (70% of every day’s income of the raffle) was purchased with
cleaning materials for the classrooms and reading supplies for the school. There was also an accounted
number of books donated from Saint Francis School- La Libertad Incorporated for the Share-a-Book-
Drive of the Reading Program.
