MRR2: The challenges facing the global south: perspectives from the Philippines.
Each and every country here in the living world has its own dilemmas to deal
with. May it be a developed, developing or third world country. Not everything in this
world is perfect everything has its own downsides. We all know, that our country, the
Philippines belong in the third world country. What the most challenging part in this is
the question that plays in some of our minds to how a third world country can cope up to
this challenges that the world has in store for us every single day of life? Is it too
pressuring for a third world country to still be dealing with a bigger problem when on the
other hand, that certain country already has a lot to deal with on its own, right? What
more if they are globally inclined already? In this article the Philippines’ perspective to
If we have fully read and understood the article, we can see that not every
country that belongs to the third world part cannot deal with the challenges they are
facing globally. The article helped me to open my eyes to significant things that I am not
quite familiar about. It had made me acquire significant learnings. First, foreign affairs or
the international relations illustrates the gap between countries in the global South. The
that motivate individuals to solidify their states as early as possible. They are irrevocably
integrated into an economic institution that is predisposed to the powerful states. But not
because they have powerful connection doesn’t mean they always win in every

challenges. This can also break and cause distraction to their states. Second, every
country has its differences. The differences to how a nation in the developing and
unsustainable country deal with various forces? What kind of discussions, plans etc. are
taking place that enable one nation to stabilize regional and international increasing
pressure? More pressingly, the different schemes that they have been using to convey
their own concepts, ideologies, and complexities. Lastly, I have also learned how the
global south are “differently different.” Countries have shared different ideology and
concepts but some do not seem to fit in their current and future patterns. This is
because, members of the developing World have different perception, mostly with
respective national power and influence as well as with each other. Moreover, the
perspective and justification of Philippine foreign relations is clearly different from other
countries foreign policy. Good example that we can compare the Philippines foreign
policy is with Singapore. These three are only some of the knowledge that I have
acquire.
Even though that I have fully read and understood the article there are still some
parts of it that’s unclear to me. Unclear in a way that I don’t understand why they are
being like how they are. One of this is how global south countries know their differences
with other countries but still the members are blinded by the power that they have.
Instead of helping out countries with low power they tend to be biased and selfish.
Second, articles such as this has been widely spread for sure, but why can’t our country
be able to distinguish to how our nation would be better? For me this one article could
be a big help already what more of the other published ones? Of course, that would be
more helpful and yet we cannot attain to be part of the developed countries because the

members of our country are blinded by power. And lastly, in the article it says that the
conclusion offers “a bird’s-eye view of the nuances of the differences of the global south
and the problems associated with it.” But still a lot of people chose to pretend that they
aren’t able to see these nuances and somehow, they considered it problematic because
people chose not to see those things beyond it. It is very unclear for me because how
could people be blinded by something that is already clear to us? Why do people
always choose to be selfish rather than to help and attain what our country and the
whole world needs? Well, whatever reason they have for sure that is only for their own
good.
As I was reading the article there’s a lot of things on my mind. At first, I wasn’t
able to understand what the article was trying to say however, as I try to comprehend it
line by line, I was able to think of some things. First, why would the members of the
south global countries tend to be biased and selfish? Yes, we may be different from
each other but as what Homi Bhabha’s said, we may not be quite the same but the level
or variance may indeed showcase asymmetry. Meaning we would still have our
similarities “almost the same but not quite.” So why bother being the bad guys? Second,
what benefits does the developing countries get from downgrading the people of third
world countries? Such as the former president of the United State, Donald Trump did to
our people. Like why would you degrade people just because they came from a third
world country? And lastly, I have realized that being part of a third world country doesn’t
mean you cannot develop on your own. We are not born to depend ourselves to others
forever. We are born because each of us has our own purpose in life. The perspectives
that the Philippines has set in order to keep up with the challenges we are facing

globally for me are still quite low because we still depend on theories or may it be a
“Western” or “non-Western” historical event. For me, yes, these historical happenings
are important but we must not depend on this always. We must cope up to how our
world is changing not to how our ancestors have done it. All we can do to these theories
is appreciate it, we can still follow some of this saying but as we grow older our living
doesn’t fit anymore in those years so we must keep up our practices that would fit
todays time.
Because of these things that have run through my mind there are certain
questions that I would also like to ask. One is why does this kind of published article not
widely spread? It would be a great help not just to our country but for the people to be
able to know that there are certain types of information that every people should know.
Second, why does the article feel like third world countries such as the Philippines,
should fit in the standard living of those developed country? And lastly, does the
perspective of the Philippines really matter to the global south? Or are they just making
this to be able to seek information and use it against us? Well, whatever it is that this
article has in store for us, it is still quite helpful and students who are able to read and
With that said, the article has helped me gain information that I haven’t known
before. Global south countries are vividly different from global north countries. There are
certain types of ways and ideologies that quite differ from how they plan or express but
there are also ways that are similar that the south and north have practiced. For me,
even though these countries have differences with one another we must still practice
having sympathy with each other. We may be too powerful but that doesn’t mean we

must take advantage of it. Always remember that God is the one who has put us in that
situation so we must use it wise fully and not to be able to use it for evil doings.
