Learning Proves theorems on trapezoid and kites Code:
Competency/ies: M9GE-IIId-2

Key A Trapezoid is a quadrilateral with at least one pair of parallel sides.

Concepts/Unders The parallel sides are called bases.
tandings to be The non-parallel sides are called legs.
developed The base angles of a trapezoid are consecutive angles with a common side which
is a base of the trapezoid.
• Length of the Median = ½ (length of upper base + length of lower base)
The median of a trapezoid is a segment joining the midpoints of the legs.
• An isosceles trapezoid is a trapezoid whose non-parallel sides are congruent.
•A kite is a quadrilateral with two distinct pairs of consecutive sides that are
congruent.
•In contrast to parallelograms where opposite sides are congruent, in a kite the
congruent sides are consecutive.

Domain OBJECTIVES
Knowledge Identify the different theorem of trapezoids and kites.
Skills Prove theorems on Trapezoid and kite
Solve problems involving Trapezoid and kites.
Attitude Internalizing the different theorem of trapezoids and kites on how to proof and
solve.
Values Cooperate and participate actively in discussing the theorems on trapezoid and
kites.
2. Content Trapezoids and Kites
3. Learning Resources LM in Math 7, PowerPoint Presentation, Projector/TV, Laptop
4. Procedures
4.1 Introductory Recap on the previous topic about the proves the midline theorem.
Activity
(10 minutres)
Hide and Seek
4.2 Activity Look around the corner and give or create an example of a trapezoid, and a kite
(5 minutes) that can be seen inside your classroom; using a ruler and protractor, measure its
sides and angles and draw to show that it is a trapezoid, and a kite.
4.3 Analysis 1. How did you find the activity?
(5 minutes) 2. Did you find something that looks alike with a trapezoid and kite?
3. What did you use to measure its sides and angles?
4. What are the measurements of the objects hat is like alike with a
trapezoid and kite ?
4.4 Abstraction 1. Trapezoid is a quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides.
The parallel sides are called bases.
The non-parallel sides are called legs.

The base angles of a trapezoid are

consecutive angles whose common side is a
base of the trapezoid.
Trapezoids have two pairs of base angles.

Example

The median of a trapezoid is a segment joining the midpoints of the legs of the
trapezoid.

Theorem
The median of a trapezoid is parallel
to the bases and the length of which
is equal to half the sum of the lengths
of the bases.
