I- Introduction

Reading skills are critical to a child's academic achievement because

they allow them to access the entire curriculum and improve their
communication and language abilities. Moreover, it can also be a joyful
and imaginative activity for learners, opening all kinds of new worlds for
them and recover learning losses as the school opens for the School Year
2022-2023.

In accordance with Regional Memorandum 403, s. 2022, the

proponent is prompted to design a project to respond to one of the foci of
2022 Brigada Eskwela Activities in creating a network of community-
based organization to get total community commitment for collaborative
programs and projects including the Brigada Pagbasa and other support
and volunteer/ community-based projects.

This will strengthen the school’s advocacies for reading to make every
learner an independent reader at their grade level and strengthen the
relationship between English teachers and parents to become effective
reading volunteers in school and at home. Consequently, this will be the
initial adjustment of the school learning recovery plan in literacy of the
English Department.

This project aims to ready incoming Grade 7 students, balik-aral

students, and transferees in employing reading to learn strategies in
preparation for Junior High School.

Specifically, it sought to:

1. Enhance the reading skills of Grade 7 students, balik-aral

students, and transferees; and

2. Create a Brigada Pagbasa Committee in the community and

raise the number of reading volunteers;
II- Presentation of Case
Project READY is an innovation that target learners’ development and
community engagement that will capitalize on the cooperation of parents
and other stakeholders as reading volunteers to sustain the Brigada
Pagbasa to help reinforce the reading habits at home while enhancing the
reading skills of Grade 7 students, balik-aral students, and transferees.
The target students are those who did not need the desired standards in
the fluency test and comprehension check in the school entrance reading
test as the baseline.

It is a short-term program to provide an intensive 60-minute hybrid

focus group session with virtual storytelling for students to needs
comprehension exercises and face-to-face reading tutorial for students
who needs instruction in fluency. After each session there will be a
dialogue with the parents for feed backing. The results will be measured
in the post-test, which will also be reported. The AITF health and safety
protocols will be strictly observed during the implementation of the
project.

This project proposal is an adaptation and improvement of the Project

BRIGHT: Boosting Reading Instruction towards Goal-oriented and HOTS-
driven Teaching which is responsive to the reading need of Grade 7
students, balik-aral students, and transferees.
