Hearing, sight, touch, smell, and taste is what we

call senses. All in all we have five extraordinary
senses.

Do you have those senses kids?

Really, let’s find out!

III. ABSTRACTION
Humans primarily see the world with the help of their five
senses. These five senses are touch, taste, hearing, and sight.
With our eyes, nostrils, ears, tongues, and skin, we can see,
smell, hear, listen, taste, and touch.

Five Senses
Each of our senses has a unique detection mechanism that it
employs to gather information about our environment. The
data is transmitted to the brain, where it is integrated and
processed to generate a whole sensory impression of our
surroundings.

1. Sight: light and colour is detected by cells in the retina at

the back of the eye.
2. Sound: hair cells in the ear move in response to specific
frequencies of sound.
3. Taste: taste buds on the tongue react to salt, sour, bitter,
sweet and umami tastes in our food.
4. Smell: special cells in the nose detect different chemicals in
the air that we breathe in. We also detect the flavours in food
as air moves from our mouth up into the back of the nasal
cavity.
5. Touch: various receptors in our skin can detect different
types of touch, including pressure and vibrations.
IV. APPLICATION ENGAGE!

A. Look at this figure what did

you see?

We use our eyes to describe what we see. Therefore, eyes are

our sense of sight!

B. Close your eyes and listen for

30 seconds. What did you
hear? Can you tell me those
sounds that you hear?
Your sense of hearing is working well!
And If it’s not think it’s time to clean your ear.

C. Touch these two papers? What

did you notice?
We use our sense of touch using our hands!

D. Smell this perfume? How is it?

Is this perfume really smells sweet?
How about this one?
What did we use to smell this perfume?
Nose is our sense of smell.

E. Who wants candy? Of course,

anyone wants it. Let’s try to
taste these candies. How does
it taste?
Thanks to our taste buds. Tongue has a taste bud that’s why
we are able to Taste different flavour found in food.
