Statement of purpose

If Marketing has one hidden philosophy under its cover then that can be summarized in a
sentence of Marketing guru Philip Kotler, “Marketing is managing profitable customer
relationship”. Indeed, whatever marketing offers is to maintain and retain customers by
providing them with their desired offerings. In fact, marketing is a machine that harnesses the
power to pave the way for the business world to go forward.
The particular reason for mine to select a marketing major because I find it to be truly human-
centric thus makes it a very dynamic and creativity-based field. Besides, marketing is a fast-
growing and continuously updating discipline, encompassing a wide area of activities. While
studying my bachelor of Business Administration, I took courses related to marketing, such as
Rural Marketing, Integrated Marketing Communication, Consumer Behavior and then Service
Marketing, Brand Management, and Marketing Research. In addition to the lectures, we
examined several case studies and devised specific solutions for particular problems and did
some product development, Created brand elements for a company and prepared TVC, RDC for
our product, through these courses, I grew familiar with the basic theories and applications of
marketing. The grades that I have achieved in those marketing courses have been excellent. My
good performance had more to do with the fact that I enjoyed studying business than just being a
mere bookish student. And the enjoyment led me to choose a post-graduate career in the field of
marketing.
Though my career goal is to pursue a career in academia I could not resist the temptation of
getting a practical job experience when I started my career as a Key Account Manager in a local
start-up, then i joined as Operations Associate (Marketing Operation) in world’s 4th most used
communication & instant messaging app . However, my hope balloon got leaked after seeing the
reality which is a very unfortunate scenario in my country Bangladesh where the application of
marketing is very poor in my country and researches to get rid of this situation is not sufficient.
Additionally, in my country, the field of studying marketing remains relatively underdeveloped
and backdated at the postgraduate level especially in the research sector. On the other hand,
Danish Universities are very research-oriented and the courses, as well as the resources they
offer, are the ideal fit for my career for taking to the next level.
Denmark was always my first choice for Academic destination. I have decided to study in
Denmark for some good reasons. I have found that Denmark has a reasonable tuition fees and
affordable accommodation fees which attracts international student from all over the world to
study here. Internationally recognized degree which I can use anywhere in the world for job
purposes. Scientific and technological advancement helped Denmark to achieve such a great
position in the academic world with high reputational research and world class teaching which
helps international graduates to land a top-notch job they desire for.
I have chosen MSc in Economics & Business Administration - Marketing, Social Media, and
Digitalization program at University of Southern Denmark (SDU) is said to be one of the best in
the world as it preliminary flags its focus on international perspectives as well as with a wide
range of exciting and profitable career opportunities available to graduates it’s easy to see why.
For me personally its main attraction is my belief that it will prepare me for a career and not just
a job. My taste for trying something new and psychology for taking challenges will be amplified
from the international environment that SDU offers and these could be little contribution from
me to this huge Business School. The employment statistics for business studies graduates have
always been strong, especially for those individuals like me who can think outside the box and
are ready to take on new ideas or business concepts.

In my academic life I have not spent most of my time in bachelor’s books and theory rather I
indulged myself in many extra-curricular activities. I worked as President at the Business and
Social Entrepreneurship Club of my university which is one of the most enriched clubs in my
university. There I spent good years of my life because there I expressed myself in dynamism
and creative aura that marketing provides. I developed contents for my club’s competitions and
selected themes for those competitions. I also arranged club orientation programs for three times.
I was also a trainer in my club for Microsoft PowerPoint. These club experiences brought me
closer to people, help to understand them deeply, taught me to tackle any feud and most
importantly I learnt that hidden philosophy of marketing according to Philip Kotler which is to
maintain a good relationship with people to understand their needs and expectations and that
relationship does not necessarily mean pecuniary rather more humane. I did not only confine
myself in the club but also participated in many competitions to gather experience and to go with
the learning curve. I participated & organized soft skill workshops and participated in “Brand
Yourself- Season 1 & 2”. I was the second runners up in the first “Intra University Business Case
Competition” 2017 of my university which is one of the best moments in my BBA life. I also
involved myself in the “Intra University Public Speaking” Competition 2017 and I have earned
“Digital Garage” from Google certificate on Digital Marketing (2017) to explore the new
spectrum of marketing.
As my long term goal is to pursue a career in academia, I would like to enroll in a university and
course which offers the most international academic environment which serves my goal and fits
my personality. I think it is very important for any international student to know the city and
surroundings because knowing the city he/she is going to live and pursue his/her respected
degree will give the student an edge to acclimate with the culture and people. These interactions
and bonding will give me an experience of a lifetime to be shared with my native people when I
come back to my country and who knows I might help my community from this learning. I also
plan to pursue a Ph.D. degree after completing a master's degree which demands great desire and
hard work and I believe that I am capable of thriving in a fast-paced learning environment and
given the opportunity, I will give my best effort to make this a success story and come back to
my homeland and serve my respective target market.
