B. SYNOPSIS
The novel Sang Pemimpi tells the story of the adventures of Ikal, Arai, and
Jimbron in studying. They go through a lot of obstacles just to be able to go to school.
They also have to work to pay for their lives. Until a sense of pessimism arises in
Ikal's heart which makes him experience a very drastic decline, namely from rank
three to rank 75. Until then he realized and began to improve his grades. Finally, he
graduated from high school. He and Arai continued their education to Java. Ikal
studied in Bogor while Arai, studied in Kalimantan. Eventually, they both graduated
and received scholarships to study for a master's degree in France at the same place.
CHAPTER II

BODY

A. INTRINSIC ELEMENT
1. Theme
Friendships and struggles in life and belief in the power of a dream.
2. Characters and Characteristics
● Ikal : kind, optimistic, caring, unyielding, and intelligent.
● Arai : caring, creative and inspiring, persistent, diligent, intelligent,
unyielding, and sincere.
● Jimbron : patient, hardworking, innocent, sincere, kind, and a big fan of
horses.
● Pak Mustar : disciplined, assertive, and caring.
● Zakiah Nurmala : pretty, smart, and a little bit haughty to Arai.
3. Setting
● Place : Pulau Magai Balitong, the market, the harbor dock, at the movie
theater, at SMA Negeri Bukan Main, Bogor terminal, and the rented house.
Example: Actually, the movie theater is right in front of our rented house
(page 86).
● Time : morning, afternoon, evening and night. Example: Every night, from the
rented house, because we hated seeing the hooded people queuing for tickets
(page 93).
● Atmosphere : desperation, hard work, enthusiasm, togetherness, and joy.
Example: Our schoolyard was filled with the sounds of thousands of people
watching the funniest entertainment. Never before had our high school been
this lively (page 116).

First person. Characterized by the word "I" in the novel as the main character.
B. EXTRINSIC ELEMENTS
1. Mandate
● Never stop dreaming.
● Success must be realized with sacrifice.
● We must always be grateful.
2. Economic Value
When Mak Cik asked Ikal's mother for rice and exchanged it for a violin, Ikal's
mother would not accept it.
3. Religious Value
After every maghrib prayer, he always reads the Qur'an with his own awareness,
without being ordered by anyone.
4. Culture Value
Peregasan is a large board crate where rice is stored. Most Malays have a
peregasan in every house.
5. Education Value
Intelligence and cleverness are also assets to achieve success and realize what you
want.
CHAPTER III

CONCLUSION

Judging from the meaning and message contained in the novel Sang Pemimpi. There
are so many messages conveyed by Ikal, for example, that life does not go the way we want
without effort and prayer. Ikal's attitude is stubborn and intelligent, but has a high sense of
solidarity and social responsibility towards his employees and friends. The lessons learned
from the novel Sang Pemimpi are to understand yourself, others, and always remember God.
Motivating to be more active in trying and learning, and providing a very good moral effect.

Through the novel Sang Pemimpi, reminds us that all people have the same rights and
others must respect these rights regardless of their status, position, ethnicity, nation, or
gender. The value of cultural education in this case, the novel shows the tradition of those
who use Malay language every day, in addition to many things that explain the habits of Arai
and Ikal's village.
