Detailed Lesson Plan

In Mathematics VI

At the end of the lesson the pupils will be able to:
a. Visualize and describe the different solid figures (Polyhedron and Non-polyhedron)
b. Identify the faces, vertex, and edges of a solid figure.

II. Subject Matter:

a. Topic: Solid Figures

c. Materials: Pictures, real object, laptop

d. Values: Active Participation
Integration: Arts
III. Procedure:
Teacher Activity Students Activity
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer: In the name of Father and the Son
Let us stand and pray and the Holy Spirit Amen!

2. Greeting:
Good Morning Children Good morning Ma’am
You may now take your sit Thank you ma’am

3. Checking of Attendance: None Ma’am

Is there any absent today?
Very good!

4. Classroom Management:
Can you please sit properly so we can
start our lesson today!

B. Preparatory Activities:

1. Review -triangle
Before proceeding to our lesson, let us -quadrilateral
review our polygons. What are the -pentagon
different polygons that we have -hexagon
learned previously? -heptagon
C. Developmental Activities:

1. Motivation
I have here a box. Inside of this box
has different objects. All you have to
do is to pick an object and tell to the
class the shape of an object that you
picked.
Yes ma’am
Is that clear?

So, who wants to pick first in the box? Cube

Anyone?

2. Discussion -A solid figures are any three-

Our lesson for today is all about Solid dimensional object or shapes that
Figures. So, class will you read the have length, width, and height.
definition of a solid figure. They may have faces, edges, and
vertices. It can also be a
polyhedron or non-polyhedron.

-a solid figure is polyhedron when

all its faces are polygons.
So, when do we say that a solid figure -a solid figure is non-polyhedron
is a polyhedron? non-polyhedron? when it has curved surfaces.

This time we are going to identify the

solid figures that belongs to a
polyhedron.

1. Prism-is a polyhedron whose bases

are parallel congruent polygons and
whose faces are rectangles, squares,
or parallelograms. Two faces intersect
at an edge and the edges intersect at a
vertex. A prism is named after the
shape of its base.

Examples:

square prism or
cube
Rectangular prism

Hexagonal prism

2. Pyramid-is a solid figure whose base

is polygon and whose faces are
triangles which meet at a common
vertex. A pyramid is also named after
the shape of its base.

Examples:

rectangular pyramid

square pyramid

Examples of a non-polyhedron solid

figures:

1. Cylinder-has two circular bases that

parallel connected by a curved surface.

2. Cone- is a solid
figure with
circular base
connected by a
curved surface to a single vertex.

3. Sphere- is a set of points in space

that are of the same distance from a
given point called center. A sphere has
no faces, edges or vertices.

-Square Prism/cube ma’am

3. Modeling
(The teacher shows real objects that -Polyhedron Ma’am
represents each of the solid figure -Because all faces are polygon
followed by a question)

- Class what kind

of a solid figure is this?
-very good!
-is this polyhedron or non-polyhedron?
-why do you say so?
-very good! -Pyramid ma’am
-how many faces does it have?
-how many edges?
-how many vertices?
-Polyhedron ma’am

How about this?

What kind of solid figure is this?
-very good! It’s pyramid -Cylinder
-non-polyhedron
Is this Polyhedron or not? -Because it has curved

How many faces does this pyramid have?
How many edges?
How many vertices?

3.

Next, what kind of solid figure is this? -Yes

Is this polyhedron or non-polyhedron? -Cone
Why do you say that it is non polyhedron? -Non-polyhedron
Very good!

4.

How about this one? Is this a solid figure?

-Sphere
What kind of solid figure is this?
-non-polyhedron
Polyhedron or non-polyhedron?
Very good! -Yes ma’am
5.

What kind of solid figure is this?

Polyhedron or non-polyhedron?

Can you identify now the different solid

figures?
Very good!

5.Guided Practice
Identify the picture what kind of
solid figure it is. Put your answers on the space
provided.

activity.

6.Application:
(The class will group into 3 group)
What we should do when doing an
activity?
