TECHNOLOGY and LIVELIHOOD EDUCATION
Grade 8
Time: 10:00-11:00 AM – 1:00–2:00 PM

I- Objectives:
At the end of the discussion, students are expected to:
a. identify the types of feeds;
b. create a flow chart on the types of feeds; and
c. cite the importance of learning the type of feeds in swine production.

II- Subject Matter:


Topic: ANIMAL PRODUCTION
Sub Topic: Estimation and calculation in poultry production
How to identify the types of feeds in swine production.

IV- Lesson Proper:


Lesson Recall: Before presenting the new lesson to the students, the teacher will
ask students to recall the lesson discussed last meeting on identify the safety
practices during operations of farm tools.
Activity: After receiving their responses, the teacher will begin the lesson with a
game called Word Hunt. The several words associated are included with their new
lesson Animal Production (types of feeds in swine production).
A. Abstraction: Students are to find the word that are connected with animal
production and give brief definition why it is related to animal production.
a. After the activity, present to the class their newest lesson in TLE, animal
production types of feeds in swine production.
b. Define the term and ask students what comes into their mind when they hear the
word feeds in swine production.
c. Present the types of feeds in swine production.

B. Analysis: After the discussion on the types of feeds in swine production, the
teacher will have a recap on the facts.

1. Why does livestock need adequate feeding?


2. How do you feed the animals?

Swine -collective term used to denote hog or pig.


Feeds - food eaten by animals to ensure good production.
Feeding – the act or process of eating or being fed.
Ration - feeds given to the animal for a day by estimation or calculation..
Starter feed - feed given to 10 to 20 kgs piglets after the pre-starter feed.
Grower feed –feed given until the pigs reach a weight oF 60 kgs.
Finisher feed – feed given up to 80 to 90 kgs ready for the market.
V- Application:

 An Individual Activity
 In a one (1) whole sheet of paper or bond paper
 The students will create a flow chart on types of feeds in swine production.
 The teacher will use the following rubric to rate.
 The rubric will be discussed first by the teacher before each student proceeds
to the activity.
 This activity will be a total of thirty (30) points.
 The students will be given thirty-five (35) minutes to finish the activity
