b. create a photo collage on the equipment in swine production; and
c. cite the importance of using the appropriate equipment in performing farm
operation

II- Subject Matter:

Topic: ANIMAL PRODUCTION
How to identify the appropriate farm equipment.
Reference: Learning Module pages 21-27

Unlocking of Difficulties

Livestock – one or more domesticated animals raised in an agricultural setting to

produce commodities such as food, fiber and labor; usually for legged animals.
Breeding Crate- used when breeding gilt to a large boar or a large sow to a junior boar.
Farrowing crate or stall - this equipment minimizes the movement of the sow and
reduces the possibility of death of piglets due to crushing.
Heat lamps and brooders - use 50 to 100 watt bulb especially during rainy or cold
days and must be located on any side of the farrowing stall.
Water system - pressurized water system with pipes extending to the hog houses. A
minimum pressure of five (5) kg per sq cm and 500 gallons an hour is necessary.

Shipping crate - use when transporting pigs.

Castration rack - This is V- shaped equipment used during castration.
Feed cart- used to transport feeds during feeding time.
Self-feeders - designed and constructed so that feed wastage is minimized and the rate
of flow of the feed can be regulated.
Waterers – it is a kind of drinker frequently used in pig farms and it has the shape of a
knob that the pig bites or presses so the water comes out
Livestock trailer - used to haul livestock such as cattle and horses.
Pickup truck - It is a light motor vehicle with an open top rear cargo area (bed).

B. Analysis: After the discussion on the equipment of swine production, the teacher will
have a recap on the facts.

1. What are the equipments and its uses in swine production?

V- Application/Evaluation
 The teacher will divide the class into six (6) groups.
 Each group will be given an activity sheet to be accomplished.
 In the activity sheet, the student will have to match the equipment, its
pictures and uses.
 Each number is equivalent to three (3) points for a total of twenty-four
(33) points.
 The first group to pass will obtain an additional two (2) points.
 This activity will be a total of thirty-five (35) points all in all.
 The students will be given fifteen (15) minutes to finish the activity.

VI- Valuing:
The teacher will recapitulate the topic by asking the learners with the following
questions:

d. Is it important for us to know the uses of this equipment? Why?

VII- Assignment: Create a Photo Collage

Conduct a survey on equipment on swine house.
List the existing equipments and facilities you see.
