INTRODUCTION
Menstruation is one part of a woman's cycle when the
lining of the uterus (endometrium) is shed. This occurs
throughout a woman's reproductive life. With each
monthly cycle, the endometrium prepares itself to
nourish a fetus. Increased levels of estrogen and
progesterone help thicken its walls. The average
menstrual cycle lasts 28 days.

changes in the activities of ovaries and accessory ducts
as well as hormones during the reproductive phase

There are two types as follows:
• Oestrous cycle: - This acle occurs in non-primates
like cow, rat, etc.
• Menstrual cycle: - This cycle occurs in primates like
apes and human beings.
MENSTRUAL CYCLE
Menstrual cycle refers to the cyclical changes in the
activities of ovaries and accessory ducts as well as
hormones in female primate mammals during the

In human females, menstruation is repeated at an
average internal of about 28 – 29 days.
The cycle of events from one menstruation till the next
one is known as menstrual cycle.
