Today was our first day in MMG as Work Immersion students. As

instructed by our Work Immersion teacher, we all arrived before seven
in the morning. But we were unaware that the HR Department would
open at 8:00 A.M. We sat there for an hour. At precisely 8:00 A.M., a
member of the HR team showed up. We then followed her to the third-
floor office. She instructed us to wait for Ma'am Lilia, the head of the
laboratory, since she's the one who'll introduce us to the entire
laboratory unit.

The orientation was led by the Head of the Laboratory Unit, who also
introduced us to the staff in charge of the various labs they offer,
including the ones for X-ray, ECG, drug testing, and clerical work.
Ma'am Lilia reminded us about the work ethics at MMG after the tour of
each laboratory unit. We then wrote our names and the college we had
decided to attend for our undergraduate degree. The lab unit that we
will enter is then drawn. Clerical was the one that I got.

My inability to read handwriting made it difficult for me to understand

the clerical work, which made it a little confusing for me. But I'm glad
there was plenty of staff willing to assist me. We got to work right
around nine in the morning. At 12:00 PM, the morning session came to
a close and kept waiting until Ma'am Lilia returned before we left for
our lunch break.

We ate at McDonald’s because most of the cafeteria and fast food

chains were packed with people. After our lunch break, we went
straight to our workplace and started working. When I stepped into the
Laboratory to greet good afternoon, someone asked me where I’m from
and I said, “I’m from Deca (a subdivision in Barangay Matagbac)”. They
then asked me for my block and lot. When I later revealed to her that I
was also her neighbor, she was shocked and delighted to finally know
someone from work immersion. She also questioned me extensively
about how work immersion works in our strand. I'm also happy that I'm
finally acquiring the habit of writing down the patients’ laboratory
results in the logbook.

We left the building around 4:30 P.M. I’m relieved that my first day
wasn’t as bad as I expected.

I arrived two minutes before seven o'clock in the morning. I

proceeded to the laboratory to begin my job. I completed
recording the receipts early and asked Ma'am Lilia what I could
do to assist since it's already my vacant. She asked me to help
Regine in conducting drug tests to the patients. Regine assisted
me in performing the drug test. Several of the processes
perplexed me once again. When a patient asks a drug test, I first
have them fill out the paperwork, then I ask for their valid ID and
receipt, hand them a bottle, and have them urinate into it until it
is 60mL full. Because some patients do not always fill the bottle,
we allow them to return anytime they need to urinate.

I got there at 12:15 p.m. and began my afternoon session.

Because there were just three papers to record, I proceeded to
the drug test section where Regine was, and we both had nothing
to do. I walked to the laboratory and noticed several documents
that needed to be recorded, so I began writing them down.

I decided to make lines for the fecalysis recording book because

it had run out of lines. On the third day, Regine and I were quite
close because I continued going around the drug test area.
Allowing my intrusive thoughts to win like I was physically
trapping a fly while Ma'am Lil was present. Around 11 p.m.,
Ma'am Badette led me to the stand that sells lunch. Regine
almost passed out when Ma'am Van tusked her for her CBC and
blood type as part of her BU Medical Requirements. When my
shift was over, I ran into two of my classmates, Shayne and
Fritzie, who were there to pick up their laboratory results. I
waited for them since they were also going to the peryahan/fair to
film for MIL.

When I arrived, there were a lot of receipts to record, but I

finished them quickly. Venice went to MMG to get her medical
requirements met. She even agreed to a drug test since Batangas
State University (BSU) required it. When Ma'am Van brings her
for a CBC and blood typing, her left arm refuses to yield blood
unless Ma'am Van continues to pump the needle. She said she
couldn't extract blood from Venice because her arms were too
cold, so I let Venice wait outdoors first to warm up. So we walked
back inside and tusked her right arm till the blood came out,
haha. Our shift was over around 4:45 P.M. wow

Ma'am Badette let me join on her tricycle, and we arrived at 7

a.m. There wasn't much to do in the clerical department. I went to
ask Regine whether the throng in the lobby was alright so I could
get in line quickly for blood typing. I raced outside at 10 a.m. to
receive a number from the guard, but they claimed the laboratory
had chosen to stop the queue. The guard laughed at me because I
was supposed to stay inside the laboratory the entire time. How
am I supposed to know what's going on in there? Ma'am Tes took
me to the laboratory and informed Ma'am Badette that I needed
blood typing. She rushed to retrieve the syringe and started
collecting my blood.

I was so preoccupied with clerical work when the power went off
that I was afraid to take cr. Regine sketched an illustration of
Maeumi, my two-year-old pet cat, on a sheet of paper, but I'm sad
that I can't remember where I placed it. I was almost struck by
the air conditioner because I was trying to grab the papers that
the technicians walked on. NDRRMC suddenly alerted everyone
about the Mayon Volcano rising to Level 2 due to unrest.

There wasn't much to do in the Clerical area, so I went to the

drug test area to assist with her tasks. Ma'am Lil instructed her to
staple the papers of client confirmation form. It seems we stapled
250 pages or more.
The drug testing area was quite hot since the technicians
withdrew the air conditioning to clean it. When the workers
removed the air conditioner from the laboratory, I was almost hit
by it. Ma'am Lil requested if I could print the paper, but it cannot
be done due to the sensitive information that only banks must
publish.

Sir Brian came to see us. He requested our journal notebooks,

but we were unable to bring them since some of us had not yet
printed or written them.
Ma'am Aliza also provided us with a salary of P150. I showed it to
my parents, who congratulated me on my first salary and told me
to treat myself.

3 days' worth of test results/requests from patients were

recorded. My recording pen, a Pilot G-tec, ran out of ink. Ma'am
Van inquired about our enrolment at BU. She also instructed me
to keep the blue receipts separate from the patients' request
papers. Amazel served us snacks brought to her by Ma'am Arlene.

I arrived 15 minutes early than usual. I began recording receipts

as soon as I sat down. I couldn't go to Regine to assist her with
the drug test since I assumed she was upset with me. Regine
went to my area and asked if she could write down a name in the
recording book. Ma'am Alyza came to see how we were doing at
MMG. She also asked for our diary notebooks so she could make
a sign for them. However, only Frenchie was with her. We also
had pictures taken with Ma'am Alyza. She told us to bring the
diary notebook to her on Tuesday so she could sign it. We also

I went to the drug test and assisted Ma'am Lil and Regine after
recording all of the patients' lab findings and demands. I saw
them almost panicking because of the sudden crowd. I assisted
Ma'am Lil in arranging the bottles and adhesive labels. In about
half a day, we had a record of 35 patients for a drug test. Ma'am
Lil and Ma'am Arlene, who were having lunch in the pantry, were
surprised with cake and pancit we brought. Ma'am Aliza gave me
a fresh microscope logbook to write lines on when I came for my
afternoon shift... When it was time to go home, Ma'am Badette's
best friend wished us well on our college journey while bidding us
farewell.

Unfortunately, it is our last day at Medical Mission Group. I

completed documenting yesterday's laboratory requests/results so
I could hang around MMG. I helped in the drug testing area.
Because we didn't have much to accomplish on our last day, I
took documentation from my clerical section. To mark our last
day, we had documentations with everyone in the laboratory. My
first job experience at MMG has been wonderful so far, and I will
never forget how well we were all treated and welcomed there. I
hope I get to see people like these in my future workplace as
well.

Shayne and I thought we were late because everyone had already

arrived MMG. The final batch on the list was the one who will be
interviewed first. I wasn't as well prepared like others, who have
prior experience with this kind of similar situations. I should have
anticipated something like this. Bernadette and I were interviewed
in separate rooms at the simultaneously. I was the first to go. It
was alright. We walked upstairs for orientation and introduced
ourselves one by one, and MMG even provided us with
refreshments of siopao and juice! I knew my work immersion here
would be exciting!
