Competency: Illustrates the importance of quantitative research across fields
Identify what field of research does the following issues belong to. Choose your answer from the
box below. Write ONLY the letter of your answer.
11. A psychometrician wants to know the attitude of the newly hired employees on a workplace.
12. A nursing student would like to know the curative effects of guava leaves on open wounds.

Competency: Differentiates kinds of variables and their uses

Identify the Independent, Dependent and Extraneous variable/s in each of the following situations.

A housewife wanted to know which soil is best for her pechay plants: the soil purchased from an
online seller, soil from her backyard compost or the soil underneath the nearby bamboo tree. She planted
30 pechay seeds into each soil source and then compared the growth of pechay after a month.
16. Independent variable: ____________________________________________________
17. Dependent variable: ______________________________________________________
18. Extraneous variable: _____________________________________________________

A teacher wanted to know which learning delivery modes (pure online, pure modular, combination of
online and modular) is most effective and has the fastest turnaround time in the submission of
accomplished activities among her Grade 12 students. She divided the students into 3 groups, gave them
the same activity sheets and asked them to submit as soon as it is completed. She then compared the
scores and completion time of the 3 groups.
19. Independent variable: ____________________________________________________
20. Dependent variable: ______________________________________________________
21. Extraneous variable: _____________________________________________________

Competency: Writes a research title/ Describes background of research/ States research questions
On the space provided, write LOVE if the statement is true and FRIEND if it is incorrect.

______22. Inserting humor in the research title makes it more interesting to the reader.
______23. Abbreviations are a must to make the research title shorter.
______24. All types of quantitative research design must include the independent and dependent variables
in the title.
______25. Jargons make a research title more sophisticated.
______26. The unexplored area of a topic that requires further exploration is called research title.
______27. The background of the study must answer why do you need to address those gaps.
______28. A significant research question must provide an additional contribution to address the given
research problem.
______29. In formulating research questions, the welfare of people, animals or whosoever are involved in
your study may not be considered.
______30. A good research question is feasible, clear, significant and hypothetical.

Competency: Indicates scope and limitation of study

Read the sample scope and limitation and identify the boundaries of the study by writing the
corresponding components on the table below.
The main objective of this study is to identify the impact of students’ stress and depression to their
academic performance. The study also includes the student’s personal information and occupation of
their parents. This study is limited to the 100 Grade 12 Male and Female enrolled in the First Semester,
School Year 2022-2023 of San Cristobal Integrated High School who experienced stress and depression
during the start of in-person classes. Each of the respondents is given a questionnaire to answer. The
students selected came from 3 different strands to prevent subjective perceptions.

Components of Scope and Limitation

 Topic of the study 31.
 Objective of the study or problems to be addressed 32.
 Time frame in which the study will be conducted 33.
 The locale or area where the study will be conducted 34.
 Characteristics of the participants of the study 35.
