能動態 vs 受動態
We canʼt solve the problem. 私たちはその問題を解決できない。
≠ The problem canʼt be solved. その問題は解決できない。

受動態が好まれる場合
This bridge was built in 1988. この橋は 1988 年に造られた。

Three people were killed in the accident. 3 ⼈が事故で亡くなった［殺された］

。

The company is supported by the people who work there. その会社はそこで働いている⼈々によって⽀えられている。

Tom knocked on the door. It was opened by an old man. トムはドアをノックした。ドアは年配の男性によって開けられた。

助動詞＋受動態：(助) be done
His new movie will be released in May. 彼の新しい映画は 5 ⽉に公開されるだろう。

Germs cannot be seen with the naked eye. 細菌は⾁眼では⾒ることができない。

進⾏形＋受動態：be being done

The robot is being made now. 今そのロボットは制作途中だ。

He felt that he was being watched. 彼は⾒張られているような気がした。

完了形＋受動態：have been done

Donʼt touch the wall. It has just been painted. 壁に触っちゃだめ。ペンキが塗られたばかりだから。

The TV had been repaired when I came home. 家に帰った時には、テレビは修理されていた。

The goods will have been sent to you by next week. 商品は来週までにあなたのところへ送られているだろう。

1. 受動態の基本 2. 受動態が好まれる場合
[1] 受動態とは S＋be 動詞＋過去分詞 の構造のことで [1] 動作主が分からない／はっきりしないとき
「S は〜される／された」という受け⾝の意味を表す [2] 動作主をわざわざ⾔う必要がないとき
[2] 能動態の⽂の⽬的語が、受動態では主語の位置へ [3] 動作を受ける側を話題の中⼼にしたいとき
と移動する ※ Subject (= S)とは、
「主語」であり「話題」でもある

能動態： S John V invited O Mary. [4] by 以下が⻑いとき ／ by 以下が新情報のとき

受動態： S Mary V was invited M by John. [1] 助動詞を含む受動態 ： (助) be done
[3] 能動態 → 受動態に⽂を変換すると、能動態の時 [2] 進⾏形の受動態 ： be being done
と⽐べて⽬的語の数が⼀つ減ることになる [3] 完了形の受動態 ： have been done

Mary was given a gold medal. メアリーは⾦メダルを授与された。

A gold medal was given to Mary. ⾦メダルはメアリーに授与された。

buy 型
This bag was bought for me by my grandmother. このバッグは祖⺟が私のために買ってくれた。

SVOC＋受動態
The baby was named Catherine by her parents. その⾚ちゃんは両親にキャサリンと名づけられた。

I was allowed to study abroad by my parents. 私は両親に留学するのを許された。

The cat was found lying on the fence by her. そのネコは柵の上で 寝そべっているところを 彼⼥に
⾒つけられた。
SVO 原形＋受動態
Tom saw Mary get out of the car. トムはメアリーが⾞から出るところを⾒た。
→ Mary was seen to get out of the car by Tom → メアリーはトムに⾞から出るところを⾒られた。

say / believe / think＋受動態

It is said that he is very rich. 彼はとてもお⾦持ちだと⾔われている。
= He is said to be very rich.

It is believed that seven is a lucky number. 7 は幸福な数字だと信じられている。

= Seven is believed to be a lucky number.

It is thought that birds evolved from dinosaurs. ⿃は恐⻯から進化したと考えられている

= Birds are thought to have evolved from dinosaurs.

4. SVO1O2＋受動態 6. SVO 原形＋受動態

[1] 第 4 ⽂型 (SVO1O2) の受動態は、動詞が give 型な
のか buy 型なのかに気を付けること
give 型： give O1 O2 → give O2 to O1
buy 型： buy O1 O2 → buy O2 for O1
[2] O1(主に「⼈」)を主語にできるのは give 型のみ
[3] O2(主に「物」)が主語の時は、O2 is done 前置詞 O1
5. SVOC＋受動態
第 5 ⽂型 (SVOC) を受動態にするとき、補語の位置は
能動態のときから変わらない
S V O C → S is done C
[1] S V O 原形の受動態は S is done to 不定詞となる
[2] この形の受動態になるのは以下の 3 語のみ
① 使役動詞 make ： S is made to do
② 知覚動詞 see / hear： S is seen/heard to do

[1] They say that SV「(⼀般的に)SV だと⾔われている」
の受動態は以下の 2 通り
① 形式主語 it パターン ：It is said that SV.
② be said to do パターン：S is said to do.

疑問詞疑問⽂＋受動態
When was the building built? そのビルはいつ建てられたのですか。

How long will you have been married next year? 来年で結婚してどれくらいになるのですか。

What was hidden under the stone? その⽯の下に何が隠されていたのですか。

Who was the record broken by? 誰によってその記録は破られたのですか。

能動受動態
His latest novel is selling well. 彼の最新の⼩説はよく売れている。

The sign reads “No littering, please.” 掲⽰には「ゴミを捨てないでください」と書かれている。

8. 群動詞＋受動態 10. 疑問詞疑問⽂＋受動態

群動詞を受動態にするときは、ひとまとまりの動詞に [1] 疑問詞≠S ： 疑問詞 is/are S done 〜 ?
して扱うこと [2] 疑問詞＝S ： 疑問詞 is/are done 〜?
ex. A foreigner spoke to me this morning. [3]「誰によって〜されるのか」

→ I was spoken to by a foreigner this morning. ① Who is/are S done by?

He was injured in last nightʼs game. 彼は昨夜の試合でけがをした。

Iʼm more interested in literature than history. 私は歴史よりも⽂学に興味があります。

I was caught in a shower on my way home. 帰宅途中でにわか⾬にあった。

受動態＋to
She is married to a colleague. 彼⼥は同僚と結婚している。

受動態＋at
We were surprised at the news. 私たちはその知らせに驚いた。

by 以外の前置詞が使われる場合、各動詞と意味的に相 be made の後に続く前置詞によって異なる意味を表す
性の良い前置詞が選ばれる傾向が強い [1] be made of「(そのままの素材)からできている」
▶ よく⽤いられる前置詞と意味 [2] be made from「(加⼯された素材)からできている」
[1] with ： ① 付帯「〜を持っている」
② 結合「〜と結びついた」
[2] in ： 範囲内 「〜という範囲内において」
[3] to ： 対象 「〜に対して」
[4] at ： 時点 「〜を知った時点で」

be known の後に続く前置詞によって異なる意味を表す
