Do this activity every so often to check your child’s understanding of story order. After a
story is read, ask him to name one thing that happened at the beginning, two things that
ay s: happened in the middle, and one thing that happened at the end. Write each response on
C JS a strip of paper. Then mix up the papers and have your child rearrange them from top to
bottom in the correct story order. For many children, physically manipulating the
sentences helps them figure out the story order much more easily than if they simply
read a list of sentences.
