Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities

A. Activity

Good morning, class.

Everybody please stand and let us pray. Good morning, Ma’am.

Who are absent today? None? Very good.

Last week, we have tackled about Modals. Again, what *student response*
are the tree types of modals? Give me example of
modals expressing permission, obligation, and
prohibition.
*student response*

Very good class! This morning, we are going to tackle

a new lesson. But before that, we are going to have a
game! This game is called “If..then” Are you excited?

*Teacher gives the mechanics of the game… Yes Maam!

*The game starts….

Very good class! You participation is highly

appreciated. The game that we have just played used
the words “If” and “then” These words signal
conditionals. Therefore, our lesson for today is Using
Conditionals in Expressing Arguments.

B. Abstraction

CONDITIONALS are relating to sentences

formed by joining two statements with the use of the
words, “If” and “then”. The “If” statement is the
hypothesis or intelligent guess of a person and “then”
statement, is the conclusion. It expressing your reasons
or arguments on a given topic or an issue

Example:
 If you do not eat healthy, then you will get
sick.
 If you wake up late, then you will be late for
class.

You can turn a conditional statement into an

argument by changing the way it is formed. Taking the
antecedent (the first part) of a conditional statement
and saying it is true will make it into an argument
since the statement now has a basis and conclusion.
Argument
Example:
 You do not eat healthily, therefore you will
get sick.
 She did not study, therefore she got low score.
 Alyza loves drinking soda and coffee,
therefore she got acid reflux.

Conditional Argument
“If….then…” “therefore…”

Read the following examples of conditional statements

turned into arguments:
1. Condition: If Alan has a travel history in Manila
during the COVID-19 pandemic; then he must
observe 14-day quarantine.
Argument: Alan has a travel history in Manila
during the COVID-19 pandemic; therefore he must
observe 14-day quarantine.
2. Condition: If Mary will save 10% of her allowance
everyday; therefore she will have enough money to
buy the dress she is eyeing.
Argument: Mary save 10% of her allowance everyday;
then she will be able to buy the dress she is eyeing.
