Change in Society by Prophets

Topic: How did the Messengers of Allah bring about change in their society

Introduction

 The Messengers of Allah, played a significant role in bringing about change in


their respective societies.

 They were chosen by Allah to deliver His message to their own communities.

 They came as:

o Giver of glad tidings

o Warners

‫ ۚ َوَكا َن اللَّهُ َع ِز ًيزا‬/ ‫الر ُس ِل‬ ِ ‫لَِئاَّل يَ ُكو َن لِلن‬/ ‫ين‬


ُّ ‫َّاس َعلَى اللَّ ِه ُح َّجةٌ َب ْع َد‬ ِ
َ ‫ين َوُمنذ ِر‬
َ ‫ش ِر‬
ِّ َ‫ُّر ُساًل ُّمب‬

﴾١٦٥﴿ ‫يما‬ ِ

The Messengers (mentioned, came) as bearers of good news and warning (of the
punishment) so that people should not have any argument against Allah after the (coming
of the) Messengers. Allah is Almighty, All-Wise. (4:165)

 The Islamic Movement also is all about bringing about changes in society.

o Changes that will rectify the ills of society

o From Shirk to Tawheed

o From immorality to being moral


o From evil to good

 But they possess certain great qualities in carrying out their responsibility

 And if we too use those methods, we will by Allah SWT’s Divine Will can also
bring about changes in our society

 The word “How” tells us of a methodology:

o Past – how they were able to do it and the challenges they faced

o Present- How we can learn and apply their methodology to deliver this
message

o Future – How it can still be done for our future generations

Acronym

A- Akhlaaq

D—Da'wah

A -- Adl

M—Mu’allim

S-- Sabr

1. Akhlaaq…Exemplary Conduct:

a. The Messengers led by example, embodying the teachings they


preached.

b. Their personal conduct, honesty, humility, and compassion inspired


people to follow their path and adopt virtuous behavior
﴾٤﴿ ‫ك لَ َعلَ ٰى ُخلُ ٍق َع ِظ ٍيم‬
َ َّ‫َوِإن‬

Most certainly, you have an excellent character. (68:4)

ُ‫ين َم َعه‬ ِ َّ ‫ت لَ ُكم ُأسوةٌ حسنَةٌ فِي ِإبر ِاه‬


َ ‫يم َوالذ‬
َ َْ َ َ َ ْ ْ ْ َ‫قَ ْد َكان‬

You have an excellent example in (the life of) Abraham and his followers (60:4)

c. These verses and others in the Quran underscore the notion that
Prophets are chosen:

i. not only to convey divine messages

ii. but also to exemplify good character and moral conduct.

d. Their actions and behavior serve as guiding lights for their followers,
setting a standard of righteousness and compassion that serves as a
lasting model for humanity

Rasoolullah SAS said:

‫صالِ َح‬ ُ ْ‫ ِإنَّ َما بُِعث‬:‫ال‬


َ ‫ت ُأِلتَ ِّم َم‬
ِ ‫ول‬
َ َ‫اهلل صلى اهلل عليه وسلم ق‬ َّ ،َ‫َع ْن َأبِي ُه َرْي َرة‬
َ ‫َأن َر ُس‬

ِ ‫اَأل ْخ‬
.‫الق‬

"I was sent to perfect good character." (Ibn Abdul Barr and others)

e. Up until today people never met Rasoolullah SAS but read of his
character and either

i. embrace Islam or
ii. spoke very highly of him

2. Da'wah- Calling to Tawheed and opposed Kufr and Shirk in all its forms:

ۚ ُ‫ت ِر َسالَتَه‬ َ ِّ‫ك ِمن َّرب‬


َ ‫ك ۖ َوِإن لَّ ْم َت ْف َع ْل فَ َما َبلَّ ْغ‬ َ ‫ول َبلِّ ْغ َما ُأن ِز َل ِإلَْي‬
ُ ‫الر ُس‬
َّ ‫يَا َُّأي َها‬

O Messenger, deliver what is sent down to you from your Lord; if you do not, you will
not have conveyed His Message… (5:67)

a. Their message was the same as Qatadah said: The Prophets … Father
same, mothers different

i. Tawheed –

ii. Risaalah

iii. Aakhirah

b. As you delve into Tawheed with knowledge

i. Tawheed Ar-Ruboobiyyah

ii. Tawheed Al-Uloohiyyah

iii. Tawheed Al-Asmaa was Siffaat

c. But to speak out against Kufr is the greatest challenge

3. Adl: Justice

َ ‫ ۖ َو‬/‫َّاس بِالْق ْسط‬
‫َأنزلْنَا‬ َ ‫اب َوال ِْم َيزا َن لَي ُق‬
ُ ‫وم الن‬ َ ‫ َو‬/‫لََق ْد َْأر َسلْنَا ُر ُسلَنَا بِالَْبِّينَات‬
َ َ‫َأنزلْنَا َم َع ُه ُم الْكت‬
ِ ‫نص ُرهُ َوُر ُسلَهُ بِالْغَْي‬ ِ ِ ‫الْح ِدي َد فِ ِيه بْأس َش ِدي ٌد ومنافِع لِلن‬
َ‫ِإ َّن اللَّه‬/ ۚ ‫ب‬ ُ َ‫ َولَي ْعلَ َم اللَّهُ َمن ي‬/‫َّاس‬ ُ ََ َ ٌ َ َ

﴾٢٥﴿ ‫ي َع ِز ٌيز‬
ٌّ ‫قَ ِو‬

We have already sent Our Messengers with clear proofs, and sent them with the
Scripture and the balance so that people may establish justice (in their affairs). We
have also sent down iron with its mighty strength and benefits for people, and (also)
for Allah to recognize those who support Him (His cause) and His Messengers
without seeing (Him). Indeed, Allah is Most Strong, Almighty. (57:25)

a. To do justice means you must empathize

i. Humans

ii. Animals

b. Social justice

i. Racism

ii. Weak- Orphans and women

iii. Education

c. Economic justice

i. Labor

ii. Fare wages

iii. Fair distribution of wealth $200b---$5b


iv. 500 richest people --$9T

1. $12m per day since the birth of Prophet Jesus AS

2. 1M per day you still have $8.2 T

 Rasoolullah SAS was deeply in harmony to people's emotional well-being.

 He would listen attentively to their concerns and offer guidance or solace.

 His empathy allowed him to connect with individuals on a profound level,


providing them comfort and support.

 Story of Khadijah (RA)

ِ َ َّ‫يك اللَّهُ َأب ًدا َفواللَّ ِه ِإن‬
َ ‫َكاَّل َأبْ ِش ْر َف َواللَّ ِه اَل يُ ْخ ِز‬
َ ‫ص ُد ُق ال‬
ْ َ‫الرح َم َوت‬ ُ َ‫ك لَت‬ َ َ
‫ْح ِّق‬ ِ ‫ين َعلَى َن َواِئ‬ ِ َ ‫الْ َك َّل وتَ ْك ِسب الْم ْع ُدوم وَت ْق ِري الضَّي‬
َ ‫ب ال‬ ُ ‫ف َوتُع‬ ْ ََ َ ُ َ

"No! But receive the good tidings! By Allah, Allah will never disgrace you, for by
Allah,

o You keep good relations with your Kith and kin,

o Speak the truth,

o You bear the burden of the weak;

o You help the poor and the destitute,

o Entertain your guests generously and

o Assist the deserving calamity-afflicted ones


4. Mu’allim- Teach: Be a teacher: Do’s and don’ts

 Rasoolullah SAS role as a teacher went beyond conveying information

 He nurtured a community of learners who were transformed by his teachings.

 His legacy as a compassionate, patient, and impactful educator continues to


guide people in their pursuit of knowledge, personal development, and moral
growth.

 The Prophet's teachings were delivered in a simple and accessible manner.

 He used parables, analogies, and real-life examples to make complex concepts


understandable to people from all walks of life.

 Patience…he would repeat things several times

 Rasoolullah SAS encouraged his companions to ask questions and engage in


thoughtful discussions.

 Wisdom

5. Sabr- Patience in the face of adversity

a. Endurance in face of opposition

i. Determination despite prolonged rejection

b. Gradual approach

c. When faced with hostility or criticism, the Prophet responded with


kindness and patience
