or online classes. You have not seen each other anymore. But one day, Roel learned
from his mother that Michelle was sick with COVID 19 and all her family is in the
isolation facility to be treated. After 14 days Michelle was already healed together with

Keep in Mind
Suggested Time Allotment: 5 minutes

In this challenging time, we need to be cautious in everything that we do. The

Department of Health (DOH) recommend some pre-cautionary measures to prevent
from getting infected from the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID – 19). Such
prevention includes frequent proper handwashing, wearing of mask, and proper
etiquette in coughing, staying at home and the like.

Likewise, the Department of Education (DepEd) together with the Department

of Health (DOH) came up with this abbreviation STOPCOVID to inform the public
especially the learners on how to prevent getting infected with COVID 19.

S – See a doctor if symptoms of cough and cold persist.

T – Take 8 to 10 glasses of water daily.
O – One’s health is important. Maintain a healthy lifestyle and a clean environment.
P – Prepare healthy and well-cooked meals.
C – Crowded places and contact with farm and wild animals should be avoided.
O – Observe proper handwashing technique (with soap and water regularly)
V – Vitamin C supplements and Vitamin C rich fruits and vegetables should be taken
daily.
I – If you need to cough or sneeze, please cover your nose and mouth.
D – Do not panic. Stay informed about the latest development in your area.

One of the preventive measures that was mentioned was the proper hand
washing. The diagram below was from the World Health Organization (WHO). These
are the steps in handwashing. (https://www.who.int/gpsc/clean_hands_protection/en/)

8
Another recommendation on containing the COVID 19 infection was to wear
mask. According to the Philippine Star dated April 3, 2020 on the Mandatory wearing
of mask states that the Philippines government takes all effort to contain the spread of
the COVID 19. The measure was adopted by the IAFT under Resolution No. 18 that

9
adopts the policy of mandatory wearing by all residents of face masks, earloop masks,
indigenous, reusable, or do-it-yourself masks, face shields, handkerchiefs or other
protective equipment that can lessen the transmission of COVID 19.

Overall, our government is doing its best to fight against this pandemic. The
public were given information on how to prevent the spread of the disease, it is up to
the people to decide on how to act on it. Remember that we act individually but the
result of our actions may affect not only our own lives but also the lives of many.

You Can Do It!
