INSTRUCTIONAL PLAN IN SCIENCE

Grade Level: Seven (7) Date: September 25-28, 2023

Quarter First Quarter Time Allotment: 180 Minutes
Content Standard The learners demonstrate understanding of the properties of substances that distinguish them
from mixtures.
Performance Standard The learners should be able to investigate the properties of mixtures of varying concentrations
using available materials in the community for specific purposes.
Learning Competency Distinguish mixtures from substances based on a set of properties (S7MT-Ie-f-4)
Learning Objectives 8. Describe the properties of a substance.
Subject Matter Substance
Concept Substances are naturally pure, much like what you see in the picture. They have uniform
molecules. They can be found almost anywhere in the world and the universe.
A SUBSTANCE is a particular kind of matter that has uniform properties. It has a CONSTANT
chemical composition and characteristics/ properties.
They are often called chemicals. Not all substances are macroscopic. Some, like gases, are
substances that cannot be seen by a naked eye.
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
• A property of substance that can be seen, observed, or measured
• Example: Color, freezing point, density, specific heat
CHEMICAL PROPERTIES
• A property of substance that is observed during a reaction. As a result, composition of the
substance is changed.
PHYSICAL CHANGE
• Usually reversible change in the physical properties.
• Example: Change of size/shape, Melting of ice, boiling water
CHEMICAL CHANGE
• Change those results in the formation of new chemical substances
• Example: Iron rusting, wood burning, rotting apple.
The physical property of substances enables solids, liquids, and gases to change their states
under certain conditions.
• Mass: The physical property of substances that is the measure of the amount of matter in an
object. It is usually expressed in grams (g) or kilograms (kg).
• Volume: The physical property of substances that is the measurement of the quantity or amount
of matter in a three-dimensional space.
• Boiling point: The physical property of substances that is the point at which a liquid change into a
vapor.
• Melting point: The physical property of substances that is the temperature at which a solid
transforms and changes into a liquid.
• Conductivity: The physical property of substances that is the measure of a substance's ability, or
lack of ability, to conduct electricity.
• Heat capacity: The physical property of substances that is the amount of heat that must be
added or taken away from a substance to achieve a certain temperature.
• Malleability: The physical property of substances that is the degree of a solid's ability to change
its shape and form under stress.
Phase change can either be a physical or chemical property of a substance. It includes Freezing,
melting, boiling, condensation, and sublimation.

Change in temperature and color- If the original color of the substance changes with the
temperature, it means that its properties changed chemically.
• Using fire for the reaction- using fire to react, substances change their chemical property as well.
• Gas was given off- if gas was given off (except evaporation), there is a change in the chemical
property.
Materials Audio visual presentation, TV, illustrations, white board, and marker, etc

Learning Areas
Learning Tasks
Engage a. The teacher will let the students describe and answer questions related to the pictures
Day 1 (10mins) given.

Describe the pictures above. What is the difference between the two given pictures.
b. The teacher will give (10) minutes for the students to do the activity.
Explore a. A video presentation will be presented for the activity, the teacher will let the students work by
Day 1 (50mins) pair.
The teacher will then introduce the rules in the making the activity:
1. No one is allowed to use their gadgets.
2. Do not make unnecessary noise.
3. Do not play with the materials.
4. Finish the activity on time.
b. Each pair will be given forty (40) minutes to finish the activity.
c. The students will answer the worksheet based on what they understand on the video.

The students will describe the properties of each substance.

After 40 minutes, the students will submit their outputs and the teacher will present and discuss
the correct answer.
Explain a. The teacher will randomly select 5 pairs to present their output in front. The selected pairs will
Day 2 (60mins) present their output through a reporting method. They will present their answers based on the
guide questions provided.
b. After the presentations, the teacher will assess the output of each pair and will start his/her
discussion.

Elaborate With the same pair of students, they will perform another activity following the procedures given by
