Unit 1- Lesson 4 –VOCABULARY
Time: 40 minutes
Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
+ Lesson objective: identify numbers 1 - 5 and practice to say about numbers with a positive
attitude.
Previous knowledge: Students know how to greet and introduce.
Students know: Hello, goodbye, Yes/No
Materials required for the lesson: Student book, workbook, power point, TV/projector, CD,
ball, song, flashcards,…

Warm up
4 minutes - Greet the whole class. - Greet the teacher
- Play a song to create a fun atmosphere. (The
Numbers Song)
- Encourage Ss to sing along.

Teacher’s presentation

10 minutes. *Activity 1: Listen and say:


- Teacher uses the pictures in the slides (or - Listen and say
Textbook, page 9, flashcard) to introduce vocabulary of numbers 1-5 to
CD, students.
- With each slide, T shows the picture first, then asks
Ss " What number is it?” calls some Ss to stand up to
answer, waits for Ss’ answer (Vietnamese answers
are acceptable).
- After that, T shows the answers on the slides, plays
the audio for the whole class to listen and repeat
(repeat chorally, in group, and individually).
- Then, T shows the flashcards of the words (both
picture side and word side), asks Ss to listen and
repeat the words again, then ticks the flashcards on
the board one by one and writes down the words.
4 minutes PAIR WORK: Listen and point
- T asks Ss to open their Class Books and look at the - Work in pairs
pictures of numbers 1-5. - Listen and point
- T plays the recording for Ss to listen and point to
the appropriate picture.
- T plays the recording all the way through again for
Ss to listen and point and then repeat the words in
chorus.
- T asks Ss to work in pairs, one reads aloud a word,
the other points to the appropriate picture in his/her
book. T goes around the class to make sure that all
the Ss are practicing.
- T calls some pairs of Ss to go to the board, uses the
following slide (or teachers can tick all the FCs on
the board) and asks one Ss points to a picture, the

other reads aloud that word, then exchange.
4 minutes GAME 1: Slap the board - Listen to T’s instruction
- Divide the class into 2 teams to practice the - Play the game
vocabulary of numbers 1-5 by playing the game
"Slap the board"
- Stick the flashcards on the board and have students
read aloud all the words before playing game.
- In each turn, T calls from each team 1 student to
play the game. The players make a line and look at
the flashcards on the board.
- Teacher prepares some word cards show the word
one by one for the class to read the words aloud.
When hearing the words, the players have to slap on
the correct number; for example: when the class says
“three", Ss will have to slap number 3.
- The one who is faster can get 1 point for the team.
- Play several times with other students in the class.
- The group which has more points will be the
winner.
4 minutes Matching activity
- T writes down all the new words on the board, then - Listen to T’s instruction
calls 5 Ss to go to the board, provides each Ss with a - Match the words with the
flashcard and asks them to stick the flashcard on the numbers
right place (under the right word)
- When they finish, check and correct the answer,
then ask the whole class to read all the words again.
- The school which has Active Board (IWB) can use
the slides for the matching activity.
4 minutes Game 2: “Badminton “ - Listen to T’s instruction
- Teacher divides class into 2 groups to play game - Play the game
“Badminton “
- T can play the game in many rounds.
- In each round, T calls randomly 1 student from
each group to go to the board to play the game. In
turn, the students from the 2 groups will have to read
aloud a word related to the topic of “numbers”. For
example:
+ Student from group 1: one
+ Student from group 2: two
+ Student from group 1: three
+ Student from group 2: four
……………………………………….
- The group whose student can’t say a correct word
within 20 seconds loses the game. Ss can say a word
that they know (six, seven…)
- The game will continue with 2-3 more rounds. The
group which wins more rounds will be the winner.
7 minutes Game 3: “Red Hot Racers” - Listen to T’s instruction
- T divides class into 2-3 groups to play game “Red - Play the game
Hot Racers”
- T asks the groups to choose the cars with their
favorite colour.
- Then, each group will take turn to choose the
number.

Under each number, there will be a picture of
something and Ss have to count and say aloud the
number.
If the students in the class are GOOD, teachers can
ask them to go to the board to write the word down
(below the picture).
If the students in the class are NOT VERY GOOD,
teachers can ask them to count and say aloud the
number.
- T waits for SS’ answer, helps him/her correct
his/her pronunciation/spelling, then reads aloud the
words for the whole class to listen and repeat.
- The group's car will move ahead one step (T clicks
on the car to let it go) if the group has a correct
answer or they choose a lucky question. At the end of
the game, the group whose car reaches farther wins
the game.

3 minutes GAME 1: “What is missing" - Listen to T’s instruction
- Divide the class into 2 groups. - Play the game
- Have the groups observe 5 pictures of numbers on
the screen.
- Say “Sleep” (all students close their eyes). When
the teacher clicks any number on TV/ PPT, there will
be a hidden picture.
- Say “Wake up” (all students open their eyes). The
teacher requests the groups to give the name of the
hidden picture. The group which has the correct and
quicker answer gets one star. The group which has
more stars at the end will be the winner.
3 minutes Matching activity
- T writes down all the new words on the board, then - Listen to T’s instruction
calls 5 Ss to go to the board, provides each Ss with a - Match the words with the
flashcard and asks them to stick the flashcard on the numbers
right place (under the right word)
- When they finish, check and correct the answer,
then ask the whole class to read all the words again.
- The school which has Active Board (IWB) can use
the slides for the matching activity.
5 minutes Game 2: “Tom and Jerry racing “ - Listen to T’s instruction
- Teacher divides class into 2 groups to play game: - Play the game
Tom and Jerry racing. T asks Ss whether they have
seen “Tom and Jerry “yet and whether they know
who Tom is and who Jerry is. Then, T names the
groups, one is Tom and the other is Jerry.
Each group will take turn to choose the numbers and
answer the questions that follow.
- T waits for SS’ answer, helps him/her correct it and
reads the word aloud for the whole class to listen and
repeat.
- After Ss answer a question, T clicks on HOME
sign to go back to slide 3 and continue. If the group
has a correct answer, T clicks on the flag of that
group to let their character (Tom/Jerry) move ahead 1
step.
- At the end of the game, the group whose character
(Tom/Jerry) reaches farther is the winner.

4 minutes Game 3: “Passing the ball” - Listen to T’s instruction
(optional) - Teacher instructs Ss to play the game “Passing the - Play the game
ball”
- T clicks on the circles in the next (click from the
left to the right) to play some pieces of music (one by
one).
- While the music is being played, T asks Ss to pass
the ball (or something like that) around the class.
- When the music stops, the student who is keeping
the ball will have to go to the board to write down 2
numbers that he/she has learnt or he/she knows (ex:
one, two, nine etc.).
- If the student can’t write the right words or has no
answer, he/she will be punished at the end of the
lesson (just funny punishment, for example : sing or
dance etc.)
- There will be totally 5 students taking part in this
game.
5 minutes (+4 LISTEN AND SAY - Listen to T’s instruction

have students read aloud those sounds before playing
game.
- In each turn, T calls from each team 1 student to
play the game. The players make a line and look at
the word cards on the board.
- Teacher show the flashcards of numbers 2, 10, 4
and 5 one by one for the class to read the words
aloud. When hearing the words, the players have to
slap on the correct sounds; for example: when the
class says “two", Ss will have to slap on sound /t/.
- The one who is faster can get 1 point for the team.
- Play several times with other students in the class.
- The group which has more points will be the
winner.
4 minutes SING AND ACT OUT - Listen to T’s instruction
- Have Ss look at the pictures on the slide/in their - Sing the song
books and talk about what Ss are doing in
Vietnamese.
- Play the CD and point to the different groups of Ss.
- Play the song again and encourage Ss to join in
with the numbers.
- Talk about what “friend” means.
- Ask 10 Ss to come to the front. Play the song again
and put those Ss into groups to fit the words in the

and hug or hold hands to show they are friends.
