Quarter IV

I. Objectives:
A. Content Standards:
 Conservation of Mechanical energy
B. Performance Standards:

C. Learning Competencies/Objectives/Write The LC code each

*Infer that the total mechanical energy during any process
remains the same. S9FE-IVe41
Specific Objectives
 * Define potential energy and kinetic energy; and
 * Identify daily activities to demonstrate conservation of mechanical energy.

II. Content: Law of Conservation of Mechanical Energy

III. Learning Resources:

A. References:
1. Teachers Guide pages: pp.
2. Learners’ Material pages: pp.
3. Textbook pages:
4. Additional materials from
(LR) Portal
IV. Other learning resources:

A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting a new lesson: (3 mins)

 *What is MOMENTUM?
 *What conditions need to be present in a object to say it has momentum?

B. Establishing a purpose to the lesson: (5 mins)

What is energy? What is the use of energy? How do we get energy?

Energy Transformation in Car engine

Chemical Energy>> ___________ Energy>> Mechanical Energy

C. Presenting Examples/ instances of a new lesson

D. Discussing new concept and practice new skills #1.

Potential energy is the stored energy by an object due to position.

Types of Potential Energy:
1. Gravitational Potential Energy
2. Elastic Potential Energy

Kinetic energy is energy due to change in position.

It is also termed as energy of movement or energy
in motion.

E. Discussing new concept and practice new skills #2

1. At which point/s is potential energy
maximum? Kinetic energy at maximum?
2. What happens to the potential energy and
kinetic energy as the cart moves from A to C?

F. Developing mastery (13 mins)

When the ball is at the top it has potential energy, however as it starts to fall, the
potential energy is being converted to kinetic energy. When the ball reaches the
ground, there is no more potential energy since all of its initial potential energy has
been converted to kinetic energy. Potential and Kinetic energy are forms of
Mechanical Energy. And, the sum of Potential and Kinetic energy is called
Total Mechanical energy.
The unit for energy is joule or kg*m2/s2
and mathematically it is defined as
MET = PE + KE
Where MET = Total Mechanical Energy
PE = Potential Energy; and
KE =Kinetic Energy
G. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living. (5 mins)
H. Making Generalizations about the lesson (2 mins)
