ACTIVITIES
Day 1, After arriving, we were greeted by a locked Multi-purpose hall since the key to Hall was taken by the Treasurer
thus we needed to wait for the arrival of the key prior to anything, so we immediately started off with the journal
sharing, which is unfortunate for me since I had mistakenly left my Journal Sharing Paper and mistakenly packed only
the Journal Article, but thankfully, maám Midang was kind enough to consider the journal article for the journal
sharing, albeit a deduction was met due to the lack of proper submission requirement. After which we also started
preparing our lunch (boiling the chicken) in the midst of the journal sharing. After the journal sharing, we went
downstairs to prepare lunch, wherein maám Midang kindly cooked Pancit for us, and of course, it was delicious. When
the Key finally arrived, we were finally able to bring in our stuff into the multi-purpose hall. As is since we didn’t have
much to do in terms of other activities, we started to update the CDPR for finalization, which included the plans and
also the Brochures which were done by my with direct supervision and direction by Maám Midang.

KNOWLEDGE GAINED/SKILLS/ATTITUDE ACQUIRED

So for the first day, majority of the knowledge I gained was more along the supplementation of knowledge done during
the Journal Sharing as maám Midang gave us questions and promoted us to look more into current and past knowledge
regarding the topics of our journals. Maám Midang also gave us a scolding since there were issues prior to travelling
that needed to be addressed.

LEARNING INSIGHTS
With regards to this first day, most of my learning insights came from the Journal Sharing, wherein my topic was with
regards to the Experiences of BHWs with non-communicable diseases in the Urban Area. Apart from the information
already stated in the journal, maám Midang also highlighted the specific parts of Screening, Management, Promotion,
Insufficient awareness and prevention, economic burdens, Resource and Access. Specifically speaking, with regards to
the Philippines, Screening is difficult due to access and lack of resources, Management, promotion and awareness is
difficult due to the hard-headedness of the Filipinos, as well as the burden caused by economy and living conditions
that limit resource and access to the appropriate screening, management, treatment, and rehabilitation needs of the
persons with non-communicable diseases.

SUGGESTIONS/ISSUES/CONCERNS ENCOUNTERED/RECOMMENDATION
Truthfully speaking, the first day was quite problematic and filled with issues specially with regards to the problems
demonstrated with some of my group mates not properly wearing their uniforms prior to the travel. Additionally came
the issue of the Key of the Multi-purpose hall not being left in the vicinity of the barangay hall thus delaying our
schedule, but then again it was still managed thanks to the quick wits of maám Midang insisting on doing the Journal
Study while we wait.

ACTIVITIES
The second day was tiring because we need to climb and hike the mountainous path once again in order to reach
Bua, with the added troubles of climbing up and down a muddy, and slippery path which added an extra challenge to
today’s activity. But as we reach our destination, we commenced our home visit for 2 specific residences which
included the house that we visited during our previous rotation; the home of the lady with stroke, wherein we gave her
appropriate care, cleaned her linens, removed hair mites, and even gave her a haircut which she had wanted. After
which, we moved on to the next area of residence which was not a far hike. In the Second residence, we were able to
enjoy a feast of food, rested our tired feet, and even enjoyed ourselves in dances and conversations as well as gather
assessment data of the residents living there. We then later hiked back down which was slightly easier, but the walk
back through the road was also a lot harder since we were already exhausted. As we arrived back to the multi-purpose
hall, we merely waited for the time to pass, then prepared our dinner. While the others were preparing dinner, I had
already started doing the updates needed on the brochures, wherein maám Midang later followed and continued to
supervise and direct more changes needed.

KNOWLEDGE GAINED/SKILLS/ATTITUDE ACQUIRED

The second day was more of a physical trek than an educational one, but I did manage to train my body in hiking.

LEARNING INSIGHTS
As said earlier there wasn’t much to learn from this day as it was more of a physical difficulty compared to the previous
day.

SUGGESTIONS/ISSUES/CONCERNS ENCOUNTERED/RECOMMENDATION
I don’t have much to complain since we offered a drive to the base of the hiking location but I still refused in order to
gain full experience of the hike. It was a well experience since it was more of a personal issue that I needed to have
measured and taken into consideration that my body was not as well compared to back when I was younger. The only
concern I would like to bring up was the safety associated with the hike but I guess it is part of the community
experience and luckily we were not met with rains and other dangerous risks throughout the experience.

ACTIVITIES
The Last day was dedicated to cleaning up, the Rotational Quiz, and creating a choreography for the blood drive next
week. It was then after everything that we left, but not before picking up Maám Anod, and Maám Batoon.

KNOWLEDGE GAINED/SKILLS/ATTITUDE ACQUIRED

The last day was less of an academic lesson type of day and more of a recollection type of day wherein I had to draw on
previous lessons in order to answer the questions for the rotational quiz. Sadly my mind was not cooperating in my
recollection that day,

LEARNING INSIGHTS

The last day, which was primarily dedicated for the Rotational Quiz prompted more of recollection of previous topics,
which I have honestly forgotten, but it does not mean that I learned nothing that day but rather refreshed SOME
information stocked in my tiny brain. One of the things that did prompt me rethink my choices in answering the
rotational quiz was not answering (or attempting to answer) the table regarding the vaccines, which I have knowledge
on, but instead, I misinterpreted the question and thought the table was supposed to be the RHU Vaccine schedule and
completely forgot the basic Vaccines encountered in the DR/Nursery like Hep B, BCG, as well as the basic Tetanus
Vaccine.

SUGGESTIONS/ISSUES/CONCERNS ENCOUNTERED/RECOMMENDATION
Truth be told, the day itself was rather peaceful and understandable, we were able to go home early, and accomplish the
rotational quiz for both weeks. There were no prompted concerns other than the prompt issue of other students (ahem)
wanting to go home without properly fixing their hair, and not wearing proper uniform/shoes.

ACTIVITIES
The First day was more on preparation, since we had arrived late due to some issues with communication, we were not
able to go through with the handwashing & Toothbrushing with Flouride, so instead we dedicated the 1 st day with
celebrating Irish’s birthday, and preparing our pieces for the 2nd day, which included finalizing the dance, and the
speakers practicing their presentation for the General Assembly.
The Second Day was the main event; it was the General Assembly and Blood Letting, which was thankfully successful
in both parts. The third day was mainly accomplishing the missed handwashing &Toothbrushing with Flouride that we
were not able to accomplish on the 1st day.

KNOWLEDGE GAINED/SKILLS/ATTITUDE ACQUIRED

This rotation was much more eventful; first and foremost, the Presentation for the general assembly was a wonderful
experience; to present not just in front of regular people but also to barangay officials, midwives, BHWs, COPs, and
other positions, was empowering and felt nerve-wracking, it gave me a much needed confidence boost in my public
speaking. The blood letting was also quite enjoyable, being able to give blood again after 4 years of not donating blood,
but it was also my first time to actually SEE the needle used in extracting the blood which was BIG and SCARY, but it
was worth it (Thank you for the Mug and Ballpen). Lastly on the third day; being able to interact with the kids was
refreshing after interacting with the adults the previous day. Thankfully we already knew some of the kids the day
before because of the general assembly, but the experience itself was new, since interacting with kids in the pedia ward
was completely different with interacting with kids in the community.

LEARNING INSIGHTS

This rotation made me re-learn and re-think my ways of approaching the community not just as a student nurse but also
as someone who has the knowledge and platform to be able to teach people on ways that may help their way of living.
This experience made me realize just what exactly Community Health Nursing really is, not just House Visits and
Hiking, but actually advocating, educating, and giving your all into the community to see them improve.

SUGGESTIONS/ISSUES/CONCERNS ENCOUNTERED/RECOMMENDATION
Once again, with maám Midang’s guidance, this rotation went smoothly with very few hiccups to consider. Of Course
there were issues like the first day where we arrived late due to lack of communication with certain people, but it was
still properly managed. The 2nd day had a minor concern, since most of us did not speak Ilocano or any other dialect
spoken in the community, we were not able to completely relate and participate actively in the general assembly, aside
from our reports, and so we just spent majority of that day hanging out in the Clinic behind the blood letting just
waiting for time to pass, which I would have hoped to be more productive so that we could pass the time much faster.
Lastly, the last day was less of a hassle despite being the day we were least prepared for, specially considering the lack
of preparation for the educative portion of the Handwashing and Toothbrushing, where we completely lacked
coordination and assignment regarding the activity, but nevertheless we were still able to accomplish somewhat
passable.
