I. Write TRUE if the statement is correct and FALSE if it is incorrect.

1. Mass and velocity are the factors that affect the momentum of an object.
2. A huge truck that is not moving has more momentum than a small car that is moving.
3. Impulse is the product of force and time.
4. The symbol for momentum is small letter m.
5. Two identical balls with the same mass and velocity have equal momentum.

II. Given the following data, solve for momentum of the given objects.
Object Mass Velocity Momentum

(kg) (m/s) (kg-m/s)

6. Bird 0.03 18

7. Basketball 100 5
player
8. Bullet 0.004 600

9. Baseball 0.14 30

10. Frog 0.9 12

III. Solve the given problem by using GRESA.

A bowling ball whose mass is 4.0 kg is rolling at a rate of 2.5 m/s. What is its momentum?
Air bags are used in automobiles because they are able to minimize the effect of the force on an object
involved in a collision. Air bags accomplish this by extending the time required to stop the momentum of the
driver and passenger.

he-follow through is the movement of the body after the shot has been executed. You can think of it like
the swing of a tennis racket after hitting a ball, the swing continues way past the point of contact. The follow-
through is an essential part of recurve technique.

Air bags in cars are designed with impulse, or momentum change principles. When a driver gets into an
accident their momentum carries them forward into the steering wheel. By putting an airbag in the car, a
smaller force is exerted over a longer period of time to change the momentum of the driver to a stop.

What are the applications of impulse?

Here are a few examples of impulse in action. A cricket player lowers his hand just before
catching the ball. This increases the time of impact and decreases the effect of force. When
someone falls from the bed on a floor receives more injuries when compared to falling on a heap of
sand.
