importance
delivering a speech
as a student?
The importance of
delivering a speech
as a student is for us
to develop
communication and
public speaking
skills.

Very good! Doing

speech delivery at
your level now is a
stepping stone as
you develop your
skills in speaking.

Now let’s discuss

the basic methods of
speech delivery.

Methods of Delivery
There are four basic
methods of
delivering a speech:

1. Reading
verbatim from a
manuscript

- Speech that is
written out
and read out to an
audience
is referred to as a
manuscript speech.
examples:
- SONA
- News Casters
- Lectors and
Commentators

2. Reciting a
memorized text

- Reciting a prepared
speech from
memory is known as
memorized
speaking. The
speaker can talk
notes-free thanks to
memorization.
- When acting in a
stage, a television
show, or movie
scene, actors
typically recite lines
from memory.

Memorization is
helpful for speeches
when the speaker
needs to convey a
precise message and
does not want to be
constrained by
notes.

3. Speaking
impromptu
- An impromptu
speech is one that a
speaker gives
without having
researched the
subject beforehand.
The word
"impromptu" itself
means "doing
anything without
planning."

Examples:

- interviews of
politicians
- presidential debate
- panel discussions
on TV channels

4. Speaking
Extemporaneously

- Extemporaneous
speech is speaking
that has been
planned and
rehearsed
beforehand. The
only notes or
speaking plan the
speaker uses to
refresh the
audience's memory.
- This style of
speaking is
frequently employed
in business,
teaching, preaching,
and political
contexts.

(Students will listen

attentively.)

manner of bearing
the body while in
a standing or sitting
position.

3. Loudness

enough to be heard.
pay attention to the
people in the last

they can hear the
speech.

4. Clarity

in a slower phase so
that stuttering will
be avoided and for
the audience to
really understand the
things you say.

don’t know the

of a word.
