Dear Ms. Hicks,

I am writing to express my interest in the New Graduate Nurse Residency program at Carilion Roanoke
Memorial Hospital. I attend the University of Arizona’s conventional BSN program and will be
graduating December of 2023. I have seven years of interprofessional team experience and over the last
two years, I have completed 1,065 clinical hours. Additionally, I have completed 575 clinical/practicum
hours outside of the standard program pathway to refine my knowledge and skill in patient care.

I am interested in Carilion Clinic's Nurse Residency Program because of the organization's fundamental
goal of improving the health of the communities they serve. As a novice nurse and new resident, I want to
establish roots in Virginia. I am eager to receive the mentorship and support provided by this program to
develop further my performance, clinical knowledge, leadership, and confidence as I transition to
professional practice. As a magnet-recognized organization, I am eager to work alongside experienced
nurses, learn from their expertise, and contribute to the high-quality care that Carilion Roanoke Memorial
Hospital is known for.

After completing my military service, I wanted to serve others differently. In nursing, I can advocate for
what patients believe matters most for their care. The value of the connections I make with patients and
their families is immeasurable. Each clinical experience is an opportunity to continue to learn about
myself and the complexities surrounding patient care. My attentiveness, compassion, situational
awareness, and ability to quickly absorb information eases my ability to assimilate into any clinical
climate. I am not only a tool to my team but a reinforcement to patients that their personhood and
background deserve consideration and quality care.
