Giờ chẵn (Kim dài chỉ số 12):

Mẫu câu: It’s + number (số của giờ) + o’clock

Ví dụ:

– It’s 6 o’clock: 5h

– It’s 3 o’clock: 3h

Giờ lẻ (có thêm một số phút):

Có 2 cách nói:

 Nói giờ trước, phút sau:

Mẫu câu: It’s + number (giờ) + minutes (số phút)

Ví dụ:

– 4h40: It’s four forty

– 2h45: It’s two forty-five

– 6h20: It’s six twenty

 Nói phút trước giờ sau:

– Từ phút thứ 1-30 chúng ta sử dụng PAST sau số phút

Mẫu câu: It’s + minutes (số phút) + PAST + number (số của giờ)

Ví dụ:

 7h23: It’s twenty-three past seven

 3h16: It’s sixteen past three

 8h24: It’s twenty-four past eight

– Từ phút 31-59 chúng ta sử dụng TO sau số phút

 2h55 – It’s fifty-five to two (có thể nói là It’s five to three – 3h kém 5

 11h36 – It’s thirty-six to eleven

 Khung thời gian đặc biệt

 Khi giờ có phút 15 hơn, chúng ta sử dụng: (a) quarter past

Ví dụ:

– 4h15 – It’s (a) quarter past four (4 giờ 15 phút)

– 8h15: It’s (a) quarter past eight (8h 15 phút)

 Khi giờ có phút 15 kém, chúng ta sử dụng: (a) quarter to

Ví dụ:

– 8:45 – It’s (a) quarter to nine (9 giờ kém 15)

– 3h45: It’s (a) quarter four (4h kém 15)

 Khi giờ có phút 30 hơn chúng ta sử dụng: half past

Ví dụ:

– 7:30 – It’s half past seven (7 rưỡi)

– 5h30: It’s half past five (5 rưỡi)

Cách viết giờ trong tiếng Anh với AM vs. PM
Trong tiếng Anh, khung giờ không sử dụng là 24h. Khi đó, để diễn tả khung giờ
sáng và khung giờ buổi chiều tối, ta sử dụng:

 a.m trong cách viết về giờ buổi sáng (từ 0 giờ sáng đến 12 giờ trưa )
 p.m trong cách viết về giờ buổi chiều và tối

Ví dụ:

 2am = Two o’clock in the morning (2 giờ sáng)

 2pm = Two o’clock in the afternoon (2 giờ chiều)

 4h30 am = half past four in the morning (4 rưỡi sáng)

 4h30 pm = half past four in the afternoon (4 rưỡi chiều)

 Cách nói thời gian trong tiếng Anh

a, Chúng ta sử dụng It is hoặc It’s để trả lời câu hỏi về thời gian (Hỏi về giờ)
ngay bây giờ

Ví dụ:

– It is fifty-five to two

– It is forty-seven to four

b, Chúng ta sử dụng cấu trúc AT + time khi nói về thời gian một sự kiện cụ thể

Ví dụ:

– I go to school at 7 o’clock

– The train arrives at a quarter past two

– He goes to bed at 2 a.m

c, Chúng ta cũng có thể sử dụng các đại từ tân ngữ để trả lời

Ví dụ:

– It arrives at a half three

– It comes at a twelve past three

– It begins at seven o’clock
