special dance skills to succeed in Zumba

may pick up on the moves faster. Still, no one
is keeping score, so just dance, and just enjoy
Zumba was designed to be low-impact, and to
be an intense and efficient calorie-burning
workout that is adaptable and suitable for all
different ages, body types and levels of
fitness.

Yes________. Please stand up History of Zumba

Zumba was created by the
choreographer and fitness
instructor Alberto “Beto”
Perez in the mid-1990s.
According to the official
Zumba website, it was a
result of a “happy accident” –
Beto was on his way to teach
an aerobics class and realized
he’d forgotten his music. He
didn’t have time to double
back and get it, so he
improvised, using the salsa
and merengue tapes he
happened to have on him.
Instead of strict rep-counting,
he ended up improvising a
class that was the perfect mix
of dance and aerobics that
kept his students moving and
having fun!

In 2001, he started teaching

his hybrid dance/aerobics in
Miami, and through another
“happy accident”, he got in
touch with two other
Albertos – Alberto Perlman
and Alberto Aghion.
Together, they called the
new style “Zumba”, a word
that doesn’t have any specific
meaning but has become
synonymous with this great
combination of fitness and
fun, and brought it to fitness

dance exercise with a Latin influence that,
according to instructors, is mostly an aerobic
one and is all about having fun. Around the
world, fitness enthusiasts continue to turn to
this dance workout, which has an appearance
and sound more akin to a dance party.
Zumba is a cardio and Latin-inspired
dance fitness program. It was founded in
2001 by Colombian dancer and
choreographer Beto Pérez, and it now has
200,000 locations in 180 countries, with
15 million people taking classes weekly.

Following its rising popularity

in several continents during
its early years, Zumba was
first introduced in the
Philippines in 2011 through
Emma Satchell, who has
been dubbed as the country’s
Zumba Queen.

Satchell became a licensed

Sumba instructor after she
attended classes in the U.S.
conducted by Berto Perez’s
assistant, Kho Herlong in
2007.

Thank you ________, She started teaching

Zumba in the country in Manila and Cebu and
held classes in parks and public places. While
she initially got skeptical reactions from the
passersby, Satchell was determined enough to
promote the program in the country and
continued to do it in more places until it
reached gyms that now offer Zumba classes.
While she knew that not everyone could
afford gym membership, Satchell continued to
offer free classes in barangays and malls,
drawing more people to try out the fitness
program. During its early years, Zumba
gained popularity across several
continents. Emma Satchell, known as the
Zumba Queen of the Philippines,
introduced the dance to the country for the
first time in 2011.

To continue let's get to know who Alberto

Perez really is, Alberto "Beto" Pérez (born 15
March 1970), is a Colombian dancer,
choreographer, businessman, and Zumba
instructor. He created the exercise fitness
program Zumba in the late 1990s which
involves dance and aerobic exercise elements
with accompanying music, specifically Latin,
and associated martial arts moves, squats,
lunges, and other aerobic techniques.

Application/ Now class Let’s do zumba but before that

Activity allow me to introduce the basic steps of
zumba and later on you will have an activity
on this
(Student raise their hands)
But before that who wants to join me in
front? Anyone?

Yes________ thank you! Now class please

stand up and lets do basic step in zumba

 Salsa –

1. Take one step to the left with your left

foot.

2. Rock your weight back to the right foot.

3. Step back to the center with your left

foot.
4. Pause on the fourth count.

5. Repeat 1-4 starting right foot.

Alternatively, you can do these steps in a
forward and backward direction

 Merengue –

1. Stand tall with your feet close together.

2. Shift your hips to the right and lift your

left foot, then stomp it on the ground.

3. Shift your hips to the left and lift your

right foot, then stomp it.

Find a rhythm with that step pattern, then try

to move faster once you're comfortable. You
can add arm movements like reach out to the
side or overhead as you step.

 Reggaeton

1. Step out wide with your left foot.

2. Bring your right foot in and tap it right

next to your left foot.

3. As you tap your right foot, lean to the

right.

4. Step wide to the right with your right

foot to catch your fall.

5. Then, step your left foot close to the

right as you lean to the left. Keep
alternating to the beat as you get
comfortable with the big steps.

 Cumbia

1. With your right foot planted, step your

left foot forward. Keep your body tall and
don't lean forward with your leg. Keep
the front knee straight, then pick up the
lead leg and bring it behind your right leg.
2. This time, tap your left foot behind
your body. Point your toes, keeping the
rest of the foot off of the ground.

3. Twist your hips and bring your left foot

to the front again. Keep stepping with
your left foot only until you're
comfortable with the motion, then try it
with your left foot planted as you move
your right foot.

 Samba –

1. Start standing tall with your feet close

together.

2. Lean your weight unto your right foot,

keeping the knee straight and leaning
your hips to the right.

3. As you lean unto your right leg, lift your

left heel off of the ground so that only
your toes are touching, and bend your left
knee

4. Then, put your left heel down onto the

ground and lean unto your left leg, raising
your right heel and bending the right
knee.

The key to this dance step is in the hips. Move

your hips in with an exaggerated motion to
the side that has the heel planted

Thank you everyone for participating now you

may take your sit.
