Background of the Study

In 2012, e-commerce was made known to the Philippine landscape through the
entry of a company named Lazada. In the beginning, Lazada sold goods to Filipinos from
its own warehouses. Back then online apps are not that popular since a lot of people
prefer buying from an actual store since they can check the items and try it out, in 2015
the online shopping app “Shopee” was launched in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia,
Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam and the Philippines. A lot of people are very curious about
the app when it was first launched. The Philippines is no exception to this trend. Despite
returning to near pre-pandemic levels, online shopping in the Philippines continues to
grow, but that means so is the competition. Online shops started to bloom and get known
during pandemic, that’s why a lot of sellers are posting their products on the apps. During
pandemic we can’t go out to buy new things and products that’s why our only way to buy
them is through online. Shopee and Lazada are well known here in Philippines. If you
look closely and pay attention to our surroundings, you will notice that every person has
Shopee, Lazada, Shein and other more online apps on their phone. Online shops are
evolving day by day and they are getting more attention to the public even up to this day.
One of the target audience here are the High School Students since the beginning of the
pandemic, a lot of students are buying from online shops and most of them buy clothes
since during pandemic fashion trends are evolving and most teens especially students are
joining the trend. Online shops like Shopee and Lazada has a lot of options that every
student need and want.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This research study will be conducted to know how online shopping affects students both
advantage and disadvantage.

Benefiting the study are the various sectors as follows:

To Students
The students are the main reason, and the one that will benefit the most from this study
because this is all about students who buy from online shops.

To Parents
Parents are the one who’s with the students every day, they’re the one who’s giving them
their daily allowance and the one who guides them on what they buy and monitor their expenses.

To Readers
Readers that will read this especially students might relate regarding this topic.

To Researchers
We, researchers will benefit from this research study since we are High School students.

To Future Researchers
May this study help the future researchers to have more ideas and information about this
topic.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Shopping through online, we can both face positive and negative reviews on what we experience.
The Internet can be a great source for shoppers looking to expand their choices of products to
buy and an invaluable way for saving money. If you're shopping online, there's a larger risk of
fraud: credit card scams, hacking and other scams are common. Items get lost, damaged, or
delivered to the wrong address more often than you can imagine. But shopping online can be
helpful also if you’re looking for something specific and it saves you time to buy.
Us researchers, wants to find out how our study can determine in what way can online shopping
affect High School students both advantage and disadvantage.
We gathered some data in our survey to identify the impact of online shopping to MCA High
School students.

The following queries will be specifically addressed by this study:

1) Is online shopping apps helpful?

2) What are the advantages and disadvantages of online shopping to high school students?
3) How did the students come up with the possible impacts of using online shopping?
4) How was the quality of the product

5) How was the delivery of the product?

6) Is there an issue/problem encountered in online shopping?
Scope and Limitations
This study covers the selected 50 High School students of Maranatha Christian
Academy of Novaliches. This study focuses on the topic “The Impact of Online Shops to MCA
High School Students. We, the researchers, gathered all the data and information about the
impact of Online Shops to High School students.

Hypothesis
Online Shopping helps the students to buy things they need and want through internet because of
conveniency.

Theoretical Framework
In this research was based on the study of Chelvarayan (2021) to examine the variables
influencing students' perceptions of online learning. Shopping, given that at this time the internet
serves as the primary information source and its use has been extensively abused for our own
conveniences. Originating from our literary works, The variables were verified to be.
Convenience, Usefulness, Utility, Discretion and safety, as well as savings in terms of money,
time, and effort are what most influences a student's decision to pursue with online shopping
Conceptual Framework

The most remarkable consumer now days includes high school students who are heavily
shopping on the internet compared to others. Students have purchased apparel products on the
internet like clothes and supplies. The primary shopping motivation of those who purchased
online apparel product is convenience or saving time (Comegys & Brennan, 2003). Another
motivation is that online shopping makes it possible to offer us special products such as plus-
sized clothing or limited edition products, which are not available in the direct store, sometimes
in online shopping have discounted prices than the direct store.

Review of Related Literature

Local Literature
Online shopping and selling has been a growing craze in the Philippines in the past few
years. Filipinos preferred online shopping. The same study found that convenience, cheaper
prices and special deals were leading reason for the respondents’ preference for online shopping
apps.
With more people embracing online shopping, businesses around the globe are
rethinking their retail strategies and ramping up their digital presence. The Philippines is no
exception to this trend. Despite returning to near pre-pandemic levels, online shopping in the
Philippines continues to grow, but that means so is the competition. (Chan, 2023)
According to research, 52% of Filipino online shoppers are in the 25-34 age range. If
you combine them with the 18-24 shoppers, they make up nearly 80% of all shoppers.
Millennials likely edge out Gen Z due to adulthood’s increased spending power and
responsibilities.

Foreign Literature
According to Martin (2007) Searching product information and buying goods online are
becoming increasingly popular activities, which would seem likely to affect shopping trips.
However, little empirical evidence about the relationship between e-shopping and in-shopping is
available. According to bellis (2015) it seems obvious that people would turn to online shopping.
Not only is it cheap, the wide variety of product make it feel new and exciting. However, because
online shopping store aren’t held to the same standard as physical ones, there is a higher chance
of falling victim of scams when shopping online. Found out that the consumers factor, comprised
of privacy, security and trust, time saving, ease of use, convenience, enjoyment provided by
shopping online, company reputation and tactility, was most sign. Kane (2014) states that the
money you save today is money you can have to spend tomorrow, so make saving for the future
a priority as soon as you can.

Summary, Conclusion and Recommendations
This chapter summarizes all the data and information about the overall result of this research.

Summary
In this study, we conducted a survey for the High School Students of Maranatha Christian
Academy on how online shopping help them and how online shop has an advantage and
disadvantage effect on them. Most of them will continue buying from online shops because it is
helpful for them while some of them will not continue to buy. Through this survey we
discovered that buying from online shops can have both positive and negative reviews based on
the responses. Online shops are very helpful when it comes to purchasing items that you want to
buy online for a cheaper price than the ones at an actual store, you can find similar and same
products for a lower price. Online shops give us the opportunity to shop 24/7 and also reward us
with a 'no pollution' shopping experience. There is no better place to buy informational products
like e-books, which are available to you instantly as soon as the payment goes through. The
choices online are amazing. You can find almost any brand or item you're looking for. You can
get in on the latest international trends without spending money on airfare. However online
shopping are not necessary all the time since it also has a disadvantages. Especially in our survey
that most of the students are experiencing late deliveries when ordering something online.

Conclusions
Overall, we found out that not all students always have positive experience on online shopping,
there are also negative experiences. Online shopping brings us great convenience, but it also
encourages irresponsible consumption habits like exploiting the advantages of free returns and
expedited shipping. Comparing and researching products and their prices is so much easier
online and oftentimes when we're out shopping, Researching thoroughly could prevent you from
facing issues, scammed or even hacked. You can buy things online but make sure to check the
reviews and websites if it’s safe to explore. All in all buying from online shops are helpful and
useful.

Recommendations
We, Researches, recommend this study/topic to future researches that are interested in this topic
and can definitely gather some data or information that they might need.

I. Online shops like Shopee and Lazada should improve their services such as delivery,
shipping and packaging. Since these three are the most important services in online
business.
II. Students should learn to check feedbacks and reviews before buying something from
online to prevent themselves from getting negative experience.
III. Online apps should tighten their security and privacy considering that they’re
growing more and more each year.

All in all, this research will be helpful to future researchers that needs more information about
this important topic to help the students to figure out their concerns.
