Description
INTRODUCTION TO PHYSICS
Physics is the branch of science which deals with the study of matter and energy and their interaction between them.
Physics is most fundamental of all sciences and provides other branches of science, basic principles and fundamental laws.
PHYSICAL QUANTITIES
All the measurable quantities are called physical quantities. It has two types. Base quantities, derived quantities.
BASE QUANTITIES
The base quantities are not defined in terms of other physical quantities. The base quantities are those quantities in terms
of which other physical quantities can be defined. For example length, mass, time etc.

State and explain SHM with simple
pendulum , ball and bowl example.
Draw forces acting on a displaced pendulum.
Solve problem by using the formula of time
period for simple pendulum.
Understand that damping progressively
reduces the amplitude of oscillation.
Describe wave motion as illustrated by vibration
in rope, slinky spring and by experiments with
water waves
Information
SIMPLE PENDULUM
A simple pendulum consisting of a small bob attached to a
string and string attached with a fixed support.
DAMPED OSCILLATIONS
The OSCILLATIONS produced in any body or material due to
resistive force is called DAMPED OSCILLATIONS.with the
passage of time friction reduces the mechanical energy in the
body. For example shock absorbers of vehicles.
WAVES
A wave is a disturbance in the medium which causes the
particles of the medium to undergo vibratory motion about
their mean position in equal intervals of time.It has two
types.
1. Mechanical waves.
2.Electromagnetic waves.
Activity
Students sit in grouping and take some practical work on
ball and bowl system or mass doing system to explain
simple harmonic motion.
Students have the knowledge of SHM and their uses in Students write numarical of this chapter on their
daily life to students. They have some information about notebook.
simple pendulum, motion of mass attached to a spring
and motion of ball in the bowl according to the SHM.
They describe what is damped oscillation and how it is
produced by using some daily life examples.
Description:
SIMPLE PENDULUM
A simple pendulum consisting of a small bob attached to a string and string attached with a fixed support.
When apply force on the bob at mean position it will move from mean position A to extreme position B and then
due to inertia and restoring force bob will move from B position to A position.and then due to restoring force it
will move from A to C and then C to A in this way the bob will move to and fro motion about mean position.
DAMPED OSCILLATIONS
The OSCILLATIONS produced in any body or material due to resistive force is called DAMPED OSCILLATIONS.with the

WAVES
A wave is a disturbance in the medium which causes the particles of the medium to undergo vibratory motion about their
mean position in equal intervals of time.It has two types.
1. Mechanical waves.
Waves which require any medium for their propagation are called mechanical waves. For example water waves
sound waves

TRANSLATORY MOTION
ROTATORY MOTION.
VIBRATORY MOTION.
VECTOR QUANTITY
VELOCITY:
Gravitational acceleration
The acceleration of freely falling bodies is called gravitational
acceleration. It is denoted by "g". On the surface of the earth
it's value is approximately 10 meters
Activity
Description:
A body is said to be at rest if it does not change its position with respect to it's surrounding.
A body is said to be in motion if it changes its position with respect to it's surrounding.

TYPES OF MOTION
TRANSLATORY MOTION
In translational motion a body moves along a line without any rotation the line may be straight or curved.
It's types are , linear motion , circular motion and random motion.
ROTATORY MOTION.
The spinning motion of a body about its axis is called rotatory motion.
VIBRATORY MOTION.
To and fro motion of a body about its mean position is called as vibratory motion.
A scalar quantity is described completely by its magnitude only for example mass , length, time, speed, column, work , and
energy.
VECTOR QUANTITY
A vector quantity is described completely by its magnitude and direction. For example velocity , displacement, force,
momentum ,torque etc.

Information
MOMENTUM
FORCE
A force moves tends to move , stops or tends to stop the
motion of a body. The force can also change the direction of
motion of a body.
INERTIA
INERTIA is a property of a body due to which it resist any

FRICTION:
2. Sliding friction
CENTRIPETAL FORCE:
CENTRIFUGAL FORCE:
The force that pulls the body outward from the center is
