1. Scope
This specification covers the performance requirements of exterior plastic parts.
The performance of plastic parts or components separately specified shall be excluded
from this specification.
I Weather resistance, chemical resistance of specimen that is decorated such as coating,
plating and paint should be evaluated according to the specification of each surface
treatment.
H The humidity and hydrolysis resistance of revision H are applied to the new release
drawing of new model cars launched on November 1st 2005 or later and current cars issued
st
April 1 2005 or later.
I Revised contents with triangular symbol of this specification I shall be applied only to a
new drawing released on and after 1 January 2007. Previous version shall be applied to
the existing drawings.
2. Classification
The exterior plastic parts defined by this specification are classified into three groups
according to their constructions and applications, and identified by the suffix A, B or C as
Indicated on Table 1.
Table 1 Classification
Symbols Application and Construction
ES−X60211 A General purpose
Mainly molded parts which have double wall construction,
ES−X60211 B and will reach a significant temperature difference between outer
and inner wall under the normal service conditions.
Mainly molded parts which are adjacent to a engine
compartment, and will reach a relatively higher temperature
ES−X60211 C or are affected by the heat streams from the engine
compartment.
<Example : Hood Garnish, Radiator Grille, etc.>
G 3. Requirements
3.1 General Requirements
(1) The color and grain or texture shall match the Design Master Sample, or shall be as
specified on the engineering drawing.
(2) The exterior plastic parts shall be free from sink or weld marks, flow marks, pinhole,
uneven color and other defects on the visible surface. The acceptable lower limits of
appearance may be agreed upon between parties concerned.
J In case of mold-in-color plastic parts with the identical material, color, grain, texture,
and surface treatment, test report of weather resistance for other evaluated parts
may be applied.
J NOTE(2) Some mold-in-color parts which are assembled on lower part of body, excluding
lamps and bumper fascias, may be tested in shorter term. Details shall be
referred to ES-X83244.
NOTE(3) an example : PA6, PA66 and their reinforced grade. Polymer alloy with PA6
or PA66.
NOTE(4) an example : PC, PBT, PET, PC+PBT,PC+PET, PC+ABS or their reinforced
grades,.
4. Test Method
G 4.1 Standard Laboratory Atmosphere
The test shall be performed, as a rule, in a room at a temperature of 23±2 ℃ and a
relative humidity of 50±5 %. However, where the test temperature and humidity do not
affect the test results or where the degree of their effect is known, the test may be
performed at any temperature or humidity. In such cases, the temperature and humidity
used for the test shall be clearly indicated in the test results
5. Report
Supplier shall submit a specification confirmation test report which proves that the material
satisfies all the items required in this specification to the Purchasing Department, affected
Designing Department and/or Material Engineering Department prior to the start of mass
production delivery.
In addition to the above mentioned, the supplier shall also submit to the affected Designing
Department its own test report of the specification (test results, not nominal values),
the processing conditions, the material designation, and trial production parts or material
for MMC evaluation.
6. Designation
This specification shall be designated in drawing as follows. Suffix (A, B or C) shows
the classification of application and construction.
