Violence against women has been called “the most pervasive yet least recognized human rights abuse in the
world.” Accordingly, the Second World Conference on Human Rights in Vienna in 1993 and the Fourth World
Conference on Women in 1994 gave priority to this issue, which jeopardizes women’s lives, bodies,
psychological integrity and freedom. Violence against women is often known as ‘gender-based’ violence
because it partly stems from women’s subordinate status in society. As such, teachers and school personnel
need to have appreciation and understanding of Gender Based Violence and Exploitation.

In line with this, JBVMES will uphold a Gender and Development training focusing on Gender Based Violence
and Exploitation with the purpose of enhancing pupils, parents teachers and staff about gender-based violence
from the women’s human rights perspective with the assurance of applying the learned insights in the school, in
and out of the classroom.

II. OBJECTIVES
1. Define gender-based violence.
2. Identify different types and sites of gender-based violence, its main victims and perpetrators.
3. Analyze gender-based violence from the women’s human rights perspective.;
4. Enhance teacher’s knowledge towards gender issues and;
5. Promote camaraderie among school teachers.
III. TRAINING METHODOLOGY:
4As, Discussion/Lecture
IV. EXPECTED OUTPUT OF THE TRAINING
