Cấu trúc và từ vựng cho Speaking

1. Odour = smell. Từ này thường chỉ mùi khó chịu

Cấu trúc có thể dùng: an odour of smth: chỉ một cảm giác còn rớt lại, mỏng manh

2. Peculiar = unusual, odd, strange.

VD: his accent was a peculiar mixture of Cockney and Irish

3. Variegated = colorful. Tuy nhiên thì từ này có vẻ chỉ dùng cho cây cỏ, hoa lá,…

4. Signify = show, mean. Biểu thị, từ này có thể dùng để writing task 1

Còn có thể dùng với nghĩa quan trọng: It doesn’t signify (nó không quan trọng)

5. Derive.

 Lấy được thứ gì đó từ thứ gì đó: VD: Rin derived hatred from her reckless speech. Rin đã nhận
được sự thù ghét từ phát ngôn nông nỗi của cô ta
 Có nguồn gốc từ: The name ambergris is derived from the Spanish “ambar gris”

6. Inherent: Vốn có. VD: inherent difficulties: Những khó khăn vốn có

Có cấu trúc dạng động từ của nó: inhere in sth. VD: He believes that a power to alter things inheres in
the human soul. : Anh ta tin rằng một sức mạnh để thay đổi mọi thứ vsn có trong linh hồn của con
người

7. Divert: chuyển hướng.

 Chuyển phương hướng: Our flight had to be diverted to Newark because of the storm.
Traffic will be diverted through the side streets while
the main road is resurfaced.
 Dùng thứ gì đó cho mục đích khác: Should more funds/money/resources be
diverted from roads into railways?
 Lấy sự chú ý khỏi ai đó, vật gì đó: The war has diverted attention (away) from the
country's economic problems. (Divert attention (away) from sth)

8. Vast = extremely big

 Vast majority
 Vast amount of sth

9. Cable: dây điện bọc nhựa

10. Depict: to represent or show something in a picture or story: Tái thể hiện hoặc show thứ gì đó bằng
tranh hoặc câu chuyện

 People were shocked by the advertisement which depicted a woman beating her husband.
 In the book, he depicts his father as a tyrant.

 Mô tả khi bị cảm xúc sợ hãi chiếm lấy hoàn toàn: When I see it’s face, I was gripped by fear

14. Speculate: Suy đoán = think = guess

 A spokesperson declined to speculate on the cause of the train crash.

17. Essence: Bản chất

 In essence: Về bản chất, nói về tính chất, bản chất quan trọng nhất của một sự vật, sự việc. Cụm
này hay, dùng thay thế By nature.

VD: 1. The charges, in essence, are that he dishonestly avoided paying tax. ( Tiền thù lao, về
bản chất, thì anh ta đang né thuế một cách không trung thực)

2. Their meetings were in essence a form of religious worship. (Cuộc gặp gỡ của họ về bản chất
là một dạng của tôn thờ tôn giáo)

3. In essence, the filibuster meant that the bill would never be brought to a vote. ( Về bản chất,
….)

Ba vị trí dùng In essence, nói chung từ này hay, note lại áp dụng

 Be of the essence: Dùng mô tả thứ quan trọng nhất

VD: Happy is of the essence = Happy is the most important thing

 Vulnerable dùng đa dạng hơn, fragile có vẻ chỉ dùng cho object, vd như đồ thủy tinh v.v,…

49. Ironically: Trớ trêu thay

50. Feat: Việc làm cần nhiều công sức, kĩ năng để thực hiện
