CONTENT STANDARD:
The learners demonstrate an understanding of the underlying concepts and principles in caring and
maintaining crops.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD:
The learners shall be able to care for and maintain crops.

COMPETENCY:
The learner will be able to identify the types of pests, collect the samples of common insects and pest
found in garden and perform monitoring of pest incidence based on prescribed procedures.

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
1. Define what is Insect Pest.
2. Identify the common insect pest found in vegetable production.
3. Appreciate the importance of identifying the common insect pest in vegetables.
4. Performs actual insect pest identification on vegetable area.

Guess the Pest- Divide the class into teams .Show pictures of different insect pests on the
screen, students have to identify different insect pests name.

Questions:
1.What is the primary purpose of the Insect Pest Identification Game?
2) How does this activity help in learning about common insect pests in vegetable

2. ACTIVITY
Insect Pest Field Observation
Materials: Field observation sheets, magnifying glasses, insect collection containers
Significance: This activity allows students to observe and identify insect pests in a real-life
setting, deepening their understanding of their characteristics and behavior.
Instructions:
1) Take the students to a vegetable production area.
2) Provide each student with a field observation sheet and a magnifying glass.
3) Instruct the students to observe and identify any insect pests they encounter.
4) Students should record their observations and take pictures if possible.
Rubric:
- Accurate identification: 10 pts
- Detailed observations: 10 pts

Various insects and mites can damage vegetables in home gardens at all stages of growth.
This article provides a description of some of the more important insect pests and methods for
controlling them.

4. APPLICATION
Task 1 - Research and create a brochure on integrated pest management practices for a
specific vegetable crop. Include information on common insect pests, prevention strategies, and

Task 2 - Conduct a field survey in a local vegetable production area and document the
presence of insect pests. Analyze the impact of these pests on the crops and propose suitable control
measures based on the principles of integrated pest management.

ORAL RECITATION ON IDENTIFICATION OF VEGETABLE INSECT PEST at their garden
located at Dorego Village.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Assignment 1. Conduct research on a specific insect pest that affects vegetable production and
create a presentation highlighting its life cycle, characteristics, and impact on crops. Include
recommendations for integrated pest management strategies.

Assignment 2 - Visit a local vegetable farm and interview the farmer about their experiences with
insect pests. Write a report summarizing the challenges faced, the pest management strategies
employed, and the effectiveness of these strategies.
